For a single in Week 1 going South Shelby over Harrisburg.

This used to be run by (God I miss him) Rock Hard Corn Frog: Pick one 8-man and one in each 11-man class (7 total) must win them all to advance. I remember carthagefan2006 and myself running to either the state semi or championship one year (2017 don't quote me)..............and our defending NWCMO Playoff Challenge winner carthagefan winning it all!

White helmet

Many years ago, I wondered how the color of a helmet affected player health/comfort.

We had black helmets, but I had some old white shells (and some black shells) in the storage shed.

During a nasty August heat wave, I filled 10 x 250mL beakers with water and allowed them to sit outside overnight.

I then placed the 10 helmets (5 white, 5 black) in a row behind the endzone out of harm’s way. I alternated the helmets black, white, black, white, etc.

One water-filled 250mL beaker was set underneath each helmet. A thermometer was thrust through a hole drilled in each helmet shell with the thermometer bulb suspended in the water.

At 7:00 am, all temperatures read 82 F +/- 1 degree.

The peak temperature that day was 101 F

By 4:00 pm, the average temperature of the water in each white helmet was 86 F, while the average temperature of the water in each black helmet was
91 F.

After that season, I switched to white helmets.

I remember when Matheny was fired, they made the statement about mediocre isn't good enough, and there was a higher standard. We all remember Matheny and Shildt had over a .55 winning percentage, and multiple playoff appearances. Looks like Marmol will miss for the 2nd time. I don't believe a manager is everything, and in baseball the front office decisions are prob more important than bench decisions.

Is this just a STL problem or is it happening all over the state? Posted this on the StlToday website but no reaction, so am I just an old retired coach who always believed that your uniforms should be your school colors. White and Gray are acceptable, but for some reason I do not like the all black nor coaches for schools whose colors are say Blue and Gold and them wearing black shirts.

Let me hear your thoughts and I am back on this site to report on the STL, but really enjoy reading about the rest of the state.

That's crazy to think the landscape has changed that much in 25 years, huh? Man, when I was in college back in the middle to late 90's, I remember the "northern edge" of Nixa being 14 and 160. Now there's an entire town north of there. I also remember driving down 160 to play softball and knowing there was a good 5+ miles between Springfield and Nixa. Same with leaving Ozark and driving toward Nixa on 14. Now you feel like you never leave one before getting to the other. I feel like it's a ton of growth in 25ish years.

I think with Republic and those schools there probably had a similar situation as what we've got with WC, Carthage and Joplin. These schools played Parkwood and Memorial (or so I am told) but not so much after they combined. Back then Webb and Carthage, Neosho were way smaller but Joplin was the same size it is now. They didn't really see Joplin as a natural peer whereas now they do.

I don't know as much about SPS but my guess is they, like Joplin have traditionally been the larger schools in the area but with relatively flat enrollment.

That second paragraph sums it up perfectly, at least IMHO. I feel like that's very similar to the dynamic of SPS and the Nixa/Ozark/Willard/Republic situations.
