Would you act the same if Obama was President?

Any insight to the handle? Do Live in Kansas and own a Kia? If not no worries.

Kaskaskia, Illinois was established in 1703 by French Jesuits and the first settlement in the Illinois Territory. It was a major trading post on the Mississippi River with a population estimated at nearly 7,000 inhabitants in the late 18th century consisting of French, Kaskaskia Indians, and soldiers at Fort Kaskaskia. A great many of Missouri's earliest settlers past through and crossed the river at Kaskaskia, and traveled back and forth to purchase and trade for goods brought up the river from New Orleans. It was the first state capitol of Illinois. Following a flood in 1887, the Mississippi River changed course and slowly swallowed the town of Kaskaskia, but not before the village moved 5 miles west. Today, Kaskaskia Island is a 10 mile by 8 mile parcel of farmland occupied by about 20 families, and the only part of Illinois located west of the Mississippi River. Although it is not a true island, as there is more of a drainage ditch on the north end that only dries up when the river is low.
The Kaskaskia Indians were a tribe of the Illini nation. The Kaskaskia River enters the Mississippi River north of Chester, Illinois. Fort Kaskaskia was the site where American troops under William Clark held off the British when the British tried to gain control of the Mississippi River.
My ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Kaskaskia.

Never been there but I have crossed the river at Chester. Interesting in that Kaskaskia is on the west side of the river but in Illinois. Is that correct?

I am from MO and NO my kids didn't attend Valle.

Yes, Kaskaskia is west of the Mississippi. Most people don't know that and a good trivia question. Kids living on Kaskaskia Island take a school bus across a bridge to St. Mary, MO, the only access to Kaskaskia, and then travel 10 miles in MO before crossing the bridge at Chester, IL.

I know exactly where you’re at. I’ve dropped a few lines in the Mississippi right there off the island.

So since you live in Illinois your kids go to a private school? Again if you don’t want to share I am not offended.
BTW , my handle is the town I was raised at. Probably named after Arcola Illinois and no I’m not Amish. All Arcola’s in the states are named after the one in Italy where Napoleon had a victory.
