I talked to one of my sources (lol) a few days ago and he was acting odd about it, as if he knew something he wasn't supposed to. Who knows.

From him I gathered really only two things: Ryan McF doesn't have the resume. Bailey has the resume and to me he's the obvious candidate but allegedly doesn't want the head coach job. He seemed to be leading towards someone else but I don't know who. Or maybe he has no clue like most people.

The question is do parents move their 4th graders to Webb to play for this guy.
That will be an important question. Nothing lasts forever. At one point in time people thought that the Jeff City dynasty would go on forever. This could definitely be a program changing decision. But I would say that things better go well from the jump or this maybe a real short term coaching hire.

Probably the best move Webb could make. Webb City's offense is so unique in todays game that they have to hire within. If they went outside and changed scheme they would become just like everyone else. Dont get me wrong, Webb has had some great players, but so do other schools. The thing that consistently separates Webb is their scheme and the players knowledge of that scheme.
Couldnt have said it better myself.

Jeff City dynasty kind of has, it's just in the Wardsville portion of the Jefferson City post office box now.

Webb wins because they have better players 90% of the time. They did win lots of other games because Rod would have a better game plan or make better in game adjustments. The offense is good but it could be copied by others if it was the main reason. So the questions are can the new guy attract players and coach GameDay anywhere close to Rod. The answer probably is no because Webb already had the best so no one can do it as well.

I think Ryan will do better than his record at other places. He will have WAY more to work with on his roster, kids that know the same system he knows, and youth programs that are well coordinated feeding in loads of players year after year. Plus the move-ins. Webb City might be the one place where hiring a well liked home town guy with an average resume could actually be safer than importing a proven HC from somewhere else and I am told that was a major factor in this. Allegedly Ryan was also instrumental in developing the particular favor of the veer that they run.

The reality is people move there to play Webb City Football, not John Roderique football, even though he has been the face of the program for so long. As long as Webb City football continues to be what it is, or something close, participation will be high and others will still keep jumping on the bandwagon and they will win lots of games.

Will they win loads of state championships who knows. I do wonder though how many years without a title will be allowed before people start screaming for a change? Hopefully for his sake that doesn't happen.

Not so much unique as it is rarely seen nowadays. Not many true option teams around anymore, many of the opposing young coaches don't have as much knowledge on it, if you don't run it it's hard in 3 or 4 days for a scout team to duplicate, etc. When you combine the great tradition, great players, and a unique offense, you see the great success they have had. Plus great coaching and expectations.
I don't think split back veer is that unique.

In the late 90’s I worked with a guy from Joplin who had quickly grown tired of Webb’s success (first state title was 89 I believe). He said “don’t worry, their time of mediocrity will come, and we’ll see them put back in their place and they’ll get what’s coming to them.”

Today, he’s old and gray and feeble. And Webb is entering like their 34th consecutive year of being feared and respected as a program.

I don’t think the program is going to fade away with the departure of J-Rod. Not after a third of a century of prominence.

I literally said if Webb makes this change and keeps winning titles Webb football will live forever
