We’re talkin old school Big 8 as well. I’d love to hear some of the classic players from the years who were great

Some I enjoyed watching -
Shannon Crouch, Braxton Graham, Jared Beshore

Billy Sims, Kellen Winslow, Tommy Frazier (when healthy)

Barry Sanders was the best

I'd agree on Sanders...could have been Marcus Dupree if he'd stayed on the OU payroll for another year or two.
Barry (the bootlegger's boy) Switzer didn't pay his players................

For me who I have seen in person some names I gotta mention are

Thomas Brock QB - MV
Ben Hoensee T - Monett
Zak Porath - CJ

Not a skill position, but it would be hard to argue against Alan Barbre. He was a monster. Can't recall anyone else in the conference making it to the NFL, but correct me if I'm wrong. There were a bunch of really good players in the Big 8 for multiple schools in the late 70s-early 80s.

And had a long career in the NFL at that

I LOVED the Selmon Brothers, Joe Washington, Billy Sims, Kellen Winslow, James Wilder, Brad Smith, Pete Woods, Greg Pruitt, Kenny King, Thomas Lott, Leo Lewis, Henry Marshall, Tony Galbreath, Joe Stewart, Mo Towns, Phil Bradley, Gerry Ellis, Howard Richards, and all of the other Tigers and Sooners.

Shannon Crouch - Seneca
Brian Elkins - Cassville

Seneca had a lot of great backs, but I thought Crouch was the best of them.

Tomas Brock from MV was one of the most exciting High school players I’ve ever seen. My fro year his Sr against Monett he broke something like 13 or 14 tackels in one play then took it to the house for 65yds. It’s somthing you just don’t forget seeing.

I'm really surprised someone listed a T. If you are going with a OL, shouldn't the pick be Barbre?

He was already mentioned. I didn’t watch Barbre play. Ben Hoensee was a monster and probably would have went D1 if he hadn’t wrestled in college. Also Seth Hackney Deserves mention at G from CJ about 10 or 5 years ago.

Tomas Brock was a freakin baller. That 06 MV season had a scary team. The Big 8 was stacked that year too. He got to throw to Kellen Cox that year too which always helps. I want to say like close to 10 players ended up playing in college from that team.

I still wish the 2006 Cassville MV game would have happened. Brock didn’t play qb in 05 game because of injury and Cassville won pretty easy I think.

Elkins was a beast and not many stopped him those years for Cassville.

Mt. Vernon's best IMO would be Tomas Brock, Steve Sater (78), Brandon Schmidly (91-93), and I guess you would have to put the Boswell kid in there fro what he has done the last 3 seasons.

Seneca - Shannon Crouch

East Newton - Allen Barbre and their ambidextrous QB (Name Escapes)

Lamar recent guys I don't know I've been out of the conference for 10 years. I know Beshore, the Bailey Bros, and the two DEs from last season.

Aurora - Had the Johnston kid at LB and a FS on their state championship team that was phenomenal. Jody Sparks OL

Cassville - Elkins and the QB Ricky....?

I think the best on the team from those years at Cassville was Nick Pinalto. I think that’s how you spell his name, total beast.

I was a freshman in 06 so didnt have to attempt to tackle elkins(thank god). Highly underrated in all these discussions is frost from seneca. Ran incredibly hard for 170lbs and in my opinion was better than schaffitzel from fair grove.

Anthony Stafford Oklahoma Sooners by way of the St. Louis Sumner Bulldogs.

Kenyon Rasheed Oklahoma Sooners by way of the Rockhurst Hawklets.

Kelly Donohoe Kansas Jayhawks by way of the Harrisonville Wildcats. Had to add my home town guy.

Heavy run and lots of option football. Nebraska I back to Sooner Wishbone.
The good ol’ days indeed!
I miss them but everybody loves the pass happy spread and 72 to 70 games. No one has the attention span to watch an offensive drive lasting more than 45 seconds.

reaching back a bit.

Blaise Bauer Monett 1984 TE/QB went on to star at PSU and held most of their receiving records as a tight end.
Scot Phillips Monett 1991 QB went on to play at PSU as Linebacker last I heard he is at Kickapoo.
Dennis Heim Monett 1974 Went on to play for the SMS Bears and was drafted by the Giants.

Joe Wells QB Aurora Yeah looking at him now hard to imagine he was QB but was pretty good.

Brett Tomlison QB East Newton 2002 he broke his Collar bone his senior year But he lead the Newt to a 10-0 record I think the year before?

In my humble opinion one of the best I’ve seen was Jared Beshore. I don’t know how many of these other players were 4 years All-state but he was as a defensive back as a freshman and back the next three years. I believe 2nd all time in Show me Bowl scoring ( understand making 4 trips helps) but with 20 plus career interceptions I think he is also in the top 5 interceptions in Mo history as well. I saw Crouch play and he was a beast but many of my Seneca pals tell me they think Elbert was even better. Barbre and Hoensee (sp) were absolute beasts as well. Brock was amazing as was Elkins. I watched Lamar and therefore Beshore much more than those other guys but since it is an opinion question the best I ever saw was Jared Beshore based on his impact on all three facets of the game
