A Texas teen wrenches another girl away from a 3-year-old relative by the victim's hair and beats her as other teens cheer in disturbing footage that has surfaced online.
Police in Dallas suburb Rowlett say the family of the 13-year-old who assaulted the other girl June 19 behind an elementary school turned her into authorities, who aren’t releasing the juvenile’s name, on Sunday. The girl was incarcerated in Dallas County Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Center, Rowlett police told the Daily News.
The toddler, who was there because the 14-year-old victim was looking after her, suffered minor injuries in the melee, KTVT-TV reported. Police are trying to identify the individual who filmed the graphic cellphone video and appears to be one of several teens who seemed to enjoy the grotesque spectacle, as one girl threw the toddler’s babysitter to the ground by the hair and punched her repeatedly, according to the TV station.
Conservative blogs and social media immediately identified the incident as an example of a brutal black-on-white crime, since the aggressor in the video is African-American and the victim appears white. But an investigator with the Rowlett Police Department told KTVT that race didn’t play a role and that the victim was biracial.
Detectives had been examining the incident for several days before the video showed up on LiveLeak earlier this week, the TV station reported.
The 1-minute clip starts with a pair of girls confronting the victim as the child sits on her lap and another girl sits next to her on a bench. “Get up,” the later assailant says to the girl. “I’m not playing with you, for real.”

A male bystander says to another one about the victim, “She’s gonna keep that baby so she doesn’t get her a-- beat.” The pair then tell a male also standing near the victim to “take the baby out.”
“D---, they’re really instigating a fight,” one of the boys says to the other.
The attacking girl escalates the situation, yelling “get up!” at the seated girl. All the teens look off in the distance towards something when the aggressor suddenly grabs the red-haired victim by her locks and the toddler falls to the pavement next to the bench and begins to wail.
The onlookers are heard to say “ooh” and “aah” as the attacker drags the victim by her hair and starts to hit her. She stands over the victim and continues pounding on the defenseless girl as one of the boys present starts to perform some kind of a gloating dance around them. The video then cuts out.
Officials with the Rowlett Police Department said Saturday that the family of the girl shown assaulting the other “is now cooperating and making arrangements to deliver the suspect” after an earlier period of hiding, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. Injuring a child younger than 14 is a third-degree felony, Det. Cruz Hernandez told the TV station, noting the one-sided nature of the brawl.
“She didn’t want to fight,” Hernandez said of the victim. “You can see that on the video. She remains seated. She doesn’t see a reason to fight.”
