Weekend of Violence

A bloody weekend this weekend in the cities - STL 29 people shot, 7 dead, Chicago 79 people shot, 15 dead. 32 shooting deaths across America. The vast majority involves teenagers and barely adult age gang members and drug dealers. 11 of the STL victims were minors. The real tragedy is the small children and innocent victims hit by stray gunfire.

What do we need to do to put an end to the gang violence? Before attacking one or the other party, remember this has been going on for decades so I don't think either party can lay this on one or the other.

Obviously, there are not enough police to be everywhere at once. I have been advocating for years to bring in the National Guard to patrol the most dangerous neighborhoods. Armed soldiers on every street corner. Heck, I wouldn't even mind bringing in the Army, If regulations need to be change to allow it, then do it. Declare martial law. And the black community is going to have to accept that if their young people are arrested and guilty of gang related crime, they are going to jail.

In the mist of the BLM protests, I'm sure we have all thought to ourselves, "Then why don't you quit shooting each other?" Where in America would we allow the violence to occur like it does in our cities? The good people in these neighborhoods live in fear, afraid to let their children out to play and afraid to sit outside in the evenings.

If we as a country want to do something to truly help blacks in this country, we must start with taking back the streets in the gang areas, and go in with the full force of the law, and make a serious effort to give blacks a safe neighborhood environment.

It’s amazing to me that even with the stats posted above, I am still seeing on the Yahoo news, post dispatch headlines, etc. the story of the St. Louis attorneys who were standing on their property with guns when the protesters went by. Our media and country has become pretty twisted when two people who are just standing with guns is a much bigger story than the people being murdered every day in the inner cities. Full disclosure I do agree that their gun safety was really poor

Brandon Bosley, Alderman of the 3rd Ward in north STL, did an interview with Elliot Davis last year asking for the National Guard to come in and help stop the violence. You would have to have the leaders of the community's support.

Trump is begging the cities to ask for federal help and they keep saying no. It IS a liberal city problem. If Trump did ANY of the things you suggest, he would be strung up by Duck and the others. I believe Trump's offer was for controlling the rioters. I don't think his intention is to make a National Guard presence a long term solution like I think is needed. Don't we have a Rep governor? What has he done? The blame game won't solve anything.

If you read the article, it states the only reductions in the number of police will be thru retirement and cutting 2 cadet programs. Call it defunding the police if you want. And defunding the parks dept, the water dept., the street dept...............

And the budget cuts are for 2021. How is that increasing violence right now??

What I've learned today. Funding the Police is the least important budget policy in Democrat cities, the NRA is systemically racist for selling firearms, and republicans are increasing the murder rate by quoting murder statistics.
For me, the most important funding one can allocate at this time is a strong Police budget. I really don't care about anything else.
