To state the obvious, LN's first two seasons, they were a C5 team playing down. This year, his second season, Jones has the added challenge of moving up in class. LSW was a very good team, I imagine that Jones would have a bit of pride that they respected his kids (even though he didn't get the win.) LSW knew they were in a battle. Jones' seniors have only been in his program for one year - my bet is that program only gets better.
Curious why you would wonder what it was like if you were in his shoes? I can assure you that it doesn't just come easy for him - the man works hard at his craft. Drive by the school (Kearney then or LN now), on a weekend or summer day there's a good chance his truck is the only vehicle in the parking lot. He's not just a great football coach, but a great role model for the kids in his program.

Class 5 team playing down?? LN did not move up to class 5 till 2014. Those are the facts. First year, there were no seniors, Jones 2nd year moving up a class.... Two completely different situations... FistOH has some real good insight to his opinion. I for one see his side of it. Did I have to clear this with someone before I posted it??
LN's enrollment would have had them in C5 from day one, but as a new school, they played (down) at the next lower classification for their first two years. They didn't have seniors, but they had a larger student body and quality players (from a C6 program). You don't think that's an advantage?
I don't think you need it to clear it with anyone...I'm just amused by the "I wonder how well he'd do if we swapped positions" - that's not how it works, you make your own breaks.

If they have a larger student body and quality of players (from C6 program) then what is the issue the last few seasons? I've lived in Kearney since 2000. My first experience with Kearney football was watching them smack around a very good Marshall Owls squad in 2002 (I think). I am not a drinker of the Jones cool aid. I find it funny when you ask Kearney folks about coach Thomas and its like they have never heard of him. I understand if you played for him and he gave you some great lessons to ready you for life, but every time I read on here I get the feeling that the sun rises and sets because Jones says so. It does't... Again, sorry for my opinion.

I always think year two is when you find out what you really have vis-a-vis your coaching staff. After the playoff disasters that visited Liberty North, Kearney and Raytown the past two Fridays all three will be under the microscope in year three. Given that Minnick's situation is a bit different as he is reviving a perennial losing program plus has a stellar QB (Campbell will be a major force next year) on which to reload. You are what your enrollment says you are and I know LN folks who are very far from happy with what is going on there (2 consecutive 4-6 first round out playoff exits). The Kearney situation speaks for itself and could be eased a bit if Smithville and/or Staley advance to Columbia or win it all.
What a memory that 2002 Marshall 52-zip game still is. I went thinking I would see a good contest (Kearney's first venture to the State quarters since 1989) and they had the Owls in full retreat from the opening gun. As far as what you said about Coach Thomas that really is not true. I know literally nobody here who forgets what he did for this community/school. I wish him nothing but the best at Odessa, a major C3 title contender as we all know this year.

You know someone is confused when they refer to their own rant on a message board as an "article."
I had a family member who suffered from dementia late in life and would write screeds to the local newspaper, then he would call and ask why they didn't publish his "articles."
You could get angry at someone for publishing rants about a high school coach, who I'm sure is working hard and doing the best he can. But it's worth keeping in mind that some people can't help themselves.

Jones is there five years, and the talent is coming up. JV: Undefeated Frosh Undefeated and destroying all, 8th grade Undefeated and destroying all. THE FINAL two years of his job there might be interesting. At least they will not be bottom dwellers for long. Liberty will decline and become the new Oak Park of the Northland. The talent pools of athletes are moving to Jones' territory. And the new multi-family housing units are in the North section. Didn't you see the Jones' Welcome Center they built at one of them? Impressive.
Interesting. You gave me an idea for a thread topic. Compare Oak Parks 18-19 season with Liberty Norths. Data off the top of my head could be comparing W-L, SOS, Common Opponents, enrollment etc...

You should meet up with trigger warned Rufus and Mowest and build a safe area in the weight room for poor coach Jones.
When you three get together tell Mowest to be on the lookout for the alt - right on C Highway. One of them lives in the Roosterville filling station and drives the "Mater" wrecker parked near LN. bahahaha.
