Webb 21 Republic 30

Kudos to Republic. Two pretty good teams. Republic was able to steal essentially 3 possessions in the second half . Two onside kicks in a row and then a punt to the 1 that resulted in a safety the next play . Webbs offense essentially stood on the sidelines most of the second half . I'm usually bitter when Webb gets beat but given their massive attrition through the year and thought the game honestly it is what it is . Republic made some game changing plays in the second half and came out on top . They are a good ballclub

Webbs coaching staff has about 50 state championships between them maybe more . Sometimes you don't have the horses . This year they had too many horses in the stable . Injuries is something Webb can usually overcome because they have a large amount of kids playing . This year they just had too many to overcome and a few kids they couldn't possibly replace. Somehow they went more than a lifetime for all the current players avoiding years like this but it was bound to happen eventually. Most of the seniors PARENTS were in HS last time Webb didn't at least win districts. Pretty amazing to me . Looking back one thing that was impressive was #10 Gallardo ran for about 1300 yards and he was the # 4 or 5 RB coming into the season. Lots of soph and juniors and even a freshman QB got a lot of big playing time . They will be fine moving forward. The days of them beating Nixa , Republic , Ozark etc 25 times in a row are gone .....the whole coc is just way better than they used to be and Webb it what they always are . I don't feel like Webb has got worse ...their competition is just way better then they used to be

I’ve always respected Webb. I bet they will be back sooner then later. It’s still a machine, and the program isn’t going away.

AMAZING...Coach Rod suddenly forgot how to coach...😟

Webb will be very good for the next several years but I don't think they will be near unbeatable like they were pre 2015 or so. They had teams close to the top 25 nationally in some of those years.

Just not adapting to teams figuring out what webb does. This is just the defensive side. When webb doesnt do well its usually because of the defense. Mainly pass.

I understand. They've never been overly complex on D, and a good passing team with a decent line has always been able to move the ball and score on them. Of course, you probably wouldn't normally expect that to also include a flexbone team slinging deep balls.

Only bad thing about Republic beating Webb, is we will likely have to hear from the dude wanting to brag that the Tigers would dominate a conference with teams less than a 1/3 their size.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that conversation was started by someone claiming that Republic couldn’t compete in that conference or something along those lines.

so I guess don’t start the conversation if you’re going to be bother by someone objecting. Lol

It started by a poster talking about how competitive the Big 8 West was. Calvin then talked about the COC saying it was more competitive top to bottom and that you could not compare Big 8 athletes with COC athletes. Someone pointed out Republic's place in the standings and how they would do in the Big 8. No one ever said they could not compete. Exception was taken to the fact that they could "run through" it. Now, with a school their size, they should be able to. But in reality in most years, while they would be near the top, they would not have an easy time winning it consistently.

Everyone already knows what Webb does, it isn't complicated they just typically do it so well that few can do anything about it. They suffocate on defense then on offense grind it out and wear down the other team while putting point on the board. It's usually iron clad with their talent, depth, long term experience, coaching.

I don't know that you can pin a disappointing season ALL on defense though. If you look at some of their losses this and other recent years I see turnovers, penalties, and failures to make plays on offense and special teams that flips the script and put THEIR defense is on the field a lot more while their offense repeatedly walks away empty handed sometimes giving the opponent good field position in the process. A defense can only carry a team so far. And against some of these solid teams in the COC this year a team has little/no chance of winning if they don't perform on BOTH sides of the ball.

WC held Carthage to I believe their second lowest total of the season so it's hard to make the case that it was all a poor defensive effort. There were I believe 2 dropped returns, among other things. Republic beat Webb creatively on special teams effectively playing keep away and wearing out WEBB's defense for a change. A few years ago CJ beat Webb in a game with something like 8 turnovers. Same story the following week at Carthage plus I remember them failing to score from the 1yd line. Those are the games that lend themselves to the "we beat ourselves" comments. But last year Carthage held WC to only 14 pts. They were just beat in every phase of the game in that one. Joplin has beat them in a variety of ways. It's not any one thing. Really I think it just comes down to there are a few teams in the COC that are just better this year.

This is true. Beacuse of the injuries they actually bring back a ton of depth. Long offseason to grind it out of them. Been seven years since webb has had a webb system qb. He should be a three year starter coming next year.
