With a ground ball pitching staff why would you put your worst defensive player at first base? Maybe it works out in the long run but I think I'd still rather have Holliday in LF where he gets a lot fewer chances to not make a play. Lol. 1B needs to be able to come up with difficult plays to help out the fielders. Holliday has never had that ability. There's a reason why he's played LF his entire career. Was at game so I'm 0-1 on the year and will take the hit for this one. My bad. Holliday looked awful shaky at 1b last night. The ground ball defense has been the worst in the league and that is bad news for a ground ball pitching staff.
Adams is also a bad defender so the loss relative to the main alternative isn't that big, plus you pick up an improvement in LFWith a ground ball pitching staff why would you put your worst defensive player at first base? What Adams have you watched? He's not been good at the plate but the big guy can play some pretty good 1st base.Adams is also a bad defender so the loss relative to the main alternative isn't that big, plus you pick up an improvement in LF
Adams is good at 1B in the way Eckstein was good at SS.What Adams have you watched? He's not been good at the plate but the big guy can play some pretty good 1st base.
Maybe we'll win a WS then.Adams is good at 1B in the way Eckstein was good at SS.
I'd be less surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet than if we won the World Series with Matt Adams at 1B.Maybe we'll win a WS then.
He's a bad 1B by any reasonable measure. What Adams have you watched? He's not been good at the plate but the big guy can play some pretty good 1st base.
Easier to tighten up the D than magically become a better hitter. I would rather have this problem.Never thought during spring that our defense and Waino would be sooooooo bad. Probably accounts for 4 of our losses and today would make it 5. WOW Hung on for big win Lets go Blues
I read somewhere that batters are 12-17 when hitting the first pitch against him. Reds were 6-8 with 4 doubles. Either he's tipping that first pitch or trying too hard to just get it over. He may need to rethink his approach.Easier to tighten up the D than magically become a better hitter. I would rather have this problem.
Waino is concerning. He is not missing enough bats. Small sample size, his velocity is ok, but it's not like he is striking guys out and just inducing weak grounders.
Location has not been good at all, with any of his pitches. Not just speaking of the walks, but actual location. That and the nasty hammer have been his M.O. for his career. Now he has no location, can't get ahead, and the curve isn't nearly as useful. Hopefully it's just rust and the cold...and not age.I read somewhere that batters are 12-17 when hitting the first pitch against him. Reds were 6-8 with 4 doubles.
