But last year at this time we would go scoreless until the 6th or 7th inning and then pull the games out late. Scoring early lately is a wonderful development. Wunnerful, Wunnerful, Wunnerful.

Now all we have to do is stop them from scoring. The poor fielding is shocking, this team isn't set up to be horrendous defensively, especially in the infield.

The defense has been awful to watch so far. It's probably cost them 2 games already this year.

Are they missing Oquendo already? His main job has always been to work with the infield. I'm not sure who is doing that now. But Jose took it personally to get his guys to play good defense. This first year without him looks as bad as I can remember so far.

Was at game so I'm 0-1 on the year and will take the hit for this one. My bad. Holliday looked awful shaky at 1b last night. The ground ball defense has been the worst in the league and that is bad news for a ground ball pitching staff.

With a ground ball pitching staff why would you put your worst defensive player at first base? Maybe it works out in the long run but I think I'd still rather have Holliday in LF where he gets a lot fewer chances to not make a play. Lol. 1B needs to be able to come up with difficult plays to help out the fielders. Holliday has never had that ability. There's a reason why he's played LF his entire career.

Adams is also a bad defender so the loss relative to the main alternative isn't that big, plus you pick up an improvement in LF

What Adams have you watched? He's not been good at the plate but the big guy can play some pretty good 1st base.

Now 3r you know the fielding independant zone range of Adams is +143 which is bad.:)

Never thought during spring that our defense and Waino would be sooooooo bad. Probably accounts for 4 of our losses and today would make it 5. WOW:(:(:( Hung on for big win Lets go Blues

Easier to tighten up the D than magically become a better hitter. I would rather have this problem.

Waino is concerning. He is not missing enough bats. Small sample size, his velocity is ok, but it's not like he is striking guys out and just inducing weak grounders.

I read somewhere that batters are 12-17 when hitting the first pitch against him. Reds were 6-8 with 4 doubles. Either he's tipping that first pitch or trying too hard to just get it over. He may need to rethink his approach.

Location has not been good at all, with any of his pitches. Not just speaking of the walks, but actual location. That and the nasty hammer have been his M.O. for his career. Now he has no location, can't get ahead, and the curve isn't nearly as useful. Hopefully it's just rust and the cold...and not age.
