I am ready, but after watching as much Birdball as I can I think I need to tweak my predictions. Birds will not make the playoffs. Starting pitching won't be as good as last year. Defense has looked awful this spring. Wong should have been a soccer player. RISP RISP RISP has been awful all spring, but that should come as no surprise since they did nothing to improve their offense. Bullpen may be the only area of improvement. 84-78

Yes but I have not been watching any of their games. The Birds have looked awful every game I've watched and I have watched them all. Wong looks like a High Schooler on ground balls. They strikeout all the time. Might be the year of the PiratesHas anybody noticed the Cubs ST record is even worse than the Birds?
I haven't watched them either. I just saw the standings the other day and the Cubs record was 4 or 5 games worse the Cards. I know they all play a lot of people in ST, everybody does, but some of them win games too.Yes but I have not been watching any of their games. I am not basing my comments on the records, but what I've seen with my own eyes. The ground ball defense has been awful. The ABs from the starters have been bad. RISP horrendous. Pitching ok. They just have not looked good. Got a week to go and then all this stuff you hear from MM and players should just turn around and they are going to be ready. Hope they're right Go BirdsI haven't watched them either. I just saw the standings the other day and the Cubs record was 4 or 5 games worse the Cards. Watching again today and this might be a first. Runners on 1st and 2nd nobody out Pena doubles to the wall and the Birds not only don't score but end up with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out because Jerko passes Adams on the base paths. Next 2 batters k with runners on 2nd and 3rd. RISP RISP RISP. Can't wait to read in the paper tomorrow how everything is looking good for the season opener!!I am not basing my comments on the records, but what I've seen with my own eyes. I'm worried too, VB. Pitching hasn't looked as good as we thought it would. Offense is just where we thought it would be. Not very good. Pen has been a bright spot...but...Now it looks like Walden is going to be shelved. Any clue why the Birds are so high on Bowman??? The Rule 5 guy from the Mets. Appears he'll get the last pen spot. He was AWFUL last season in AAA, and has zero MLB experience.I am ready, but after watching as much Birdball as I can I think I need to tweak my predictions. Birds will not make the playoffs. I guess they must see something in Bowman and don't want to return him. Socolovich and Tuivalia both have been as good but their names are harder to spellI'm worried too, VB. There's not much correlation between ST records and regular season records. It's a really small sample size and it's not like these teams are playing their major league roster in every game.Has anybody noticed the Cubs ST record is even worse than the Birds?
You're are not paying attention NM. I already said I don't care about the record, but what I am seeing. All of my comments are based on observation not record. Small sample size doesn't excuse poor execution. I am watching them right now and have watched or listened to 95% of all their games to this point. There's not much correlation between ST records and regular season records. Since 2000 the Cards have been in post season 12 times. Only the Yankees have been more with 13 trips. The Cards have the longest active streak at 5. Quite honestly they're due for a down year. The wildcards make it a little easier now but the law of averages will get them at some point. They're not the Yankees who can just buy enough players to virtually guarantee success. And streaks like the Braves put on in the 90s and early 2000s are extremely unusual. I'm kind of preparing myself for the reality that this may be an off year.I'm having a bad feeling about this year
Sorta what I'm doing too. Maybe if they don't win 100 games and get in the playoffs, I'll actually have something to TRULY gripe about . I'm really freaking ready for the season to start. As worried as I am, I'm still really excited to see the young guys like Gricuk and Piscotty in the lineup everyday.Since 2000 the Cards have been in post season 12 times. I was just pointing out that the vaunted Cubs have been awful in ST. But I will remind you the teams they're playing against are most likely playing they're whole roster too so that is a moot point.I responded to 3R, not you.
Well, not really moot. That's why ST records typically don't correlate. Teams (both sides) are playing a lot of folks that won't be playing once the season starts.I was just pointing out that the vaunted Cubs have been awful in ST. And starters aren't throwing 6-7 innings, teams aren't playing optimal strategy, the sample size is tiny, etc.Well, not really moot. That's why ST records typically don't correlate. Teams (both sides) are playing a lot of folks that won't be playing once the season starts.
For sure. But then when you watch the Birds play...you get worried. Seemed like yesterday you were looking at the lineup (minus the scratched Molina), and Matt Adams was hitting cleanup. And MattyH was hitting third. It's awesome that the bench is better with Pena, Gyorko, Pham, and Moss. And yesterday I was reminded how it doesn't really matter. And starters aren't throwing 6-7 innings, teams aren't playing optimal strategy, the sample size is tiny, etc.
