Valle Catholic 51 - Fair Grove 26 (FINAL)

Alright, post game analysis.

First of all, congrats to Valle on playing disciplined, fundamental football for all 4 quarters. They won and they earned it.

Also congrats to Fair Grove on a hell of a year. I think there were a lot of people who didn’t expect them to get this far and they did. Losing 4 OL and 3 DL but bringing everyone else back.

Most of the first half was an even battle. Valle scoring with 1:30 left in the half to extend the lead to 9 points before the break really hurt.

3Q was a dogfight until about halfway through when Valle got that pick 6 that was literally a gift thrown straight to the DB in the flats.

That was the turning point of the game. Fair Grove never quit, but Valle going up 16 put them in complete control of the flow of the game and that was it.

FG was big and physical and played hard but Valle was FAST. They won the war in the trenches and won the game because of it.

I talked to a handful of Valle fans while I was at the game and they were all very nice people.

However, the collection of Valle grads all standing in the north end zone has to be some of the most worthless sad sacks I’ve ever seen in person. Rivaling even Marionville sideline fans and that’s saying something.

And I decided not to go into the “trophy room” underneath the press box. Talk about a vanity flex.

The facilities were great, the field was terrible. Guess the money for the seed went to the trophy room.

I was in western BFE and had to drive through central, northern and northeastern BFE to get to the game today. Phew. The part of BFE where football doesn’t even exist. Eminence, Centerville, Ellington, etc

Anyways, this will be the last game I go watch this year in person and it was a fun experience.
Please more info, what made them the most worthless sad sacks you've ever seen? Sounds like several Valle alumni I know!

Thanks for the analysis! Good insight. Seems like we were just anticipating the jamborees, now we’re down to one more game per class. Then, the long wait. Fastest weeks of the year.

Why take the wagon train route through the National Forest? Seems like 60 to 67 would be a much easier drive!

Wish I had known you were there.....I wasn't in the north end zone:) They were probably from the beer gate across the road. They didn't re seed the field but a couple of years ago planted sprigs of grass that was supposed to spread. Looked pretty good the first year. About the only area of that effort that remains is the center of the field. Expecting another alumni appeal.
The Eminence/Centerville/Ellington area is a favorite area of ours.

Beer gate? And nothing like Christian private school alums being publicly intoxicated at a HS football game. LOL

Depending on which side of the field you were on, I may have seen you. Chatted with a couple different Valle fans throughout the game on the visitor sideline.

It was definitely a pretty drive up that’s for sure.

I forget the name of the park but to us older guys it is still known as Valle Springs. For years there was really a large spring there but it has long been dry. For a long time Valle did not have a field and played at Ste. Gen's field and I am not certain when they started playing at the current location but for as long as I remember the tail gate was always across the road. You have to remember that Germans love their beer. Thankfully that area has had a bathroom for some time now and the trees are recovering:)

Tell me more about this trophy room?? Do they charge admission??

Hawks…
I couldn’t tell ya. I didn’t go inside it. That just seemed like a wild vanity flex to me.

Though if there was a .40 time for admittance, I probably wouldn’t make the cut.
I ran a 4.78 40-yd as a strong side DE on a state ranked Class 1 team in HS.
Definitely not the speed some of these kids have today.

And taco,
It was mainly that some of the drunk douchebags in that group were taunting and heckling the opposing teams 16 year old kids. Not a good look for the god fearing Catholic private schools

And oldecoach,

It was a pretty day so I took the scenic route from the family Turkey gathering in Willow Springs on up to Valle

I took 67 and 60 on the way back though. Way too many deer running to be going that long on a 2 lane highway.

Some commentary on the trophy room. The school was built in the early 50's and a small trophy case is in the entrance lobby just outside the basket ball arena which is too small and unable to be expanded. And the hallways are not large enough to add trophy cases. So when the field house was being built a trophy room was added. It is not large and nothing elaborate compared to the trophy halls in some of the public schools here in StL.

I agree, I hate hearing that BS, not a good look for anybody. Valle fans are no different than any other schools fans, there are douchebags everywhere, it's a shame and embarrassing for everyone around them. That's definitely not a representative for all private catholic schools, they just get the attention

I agree. I saw firsthand the same type of crap from Marionville fans on the opponents sideline. They were all sitting about 15 feet behind where all the bench players and coaches were. It was gross to listen to.

I do yell at officials on occasion as most do, but I leave the players out of it.

Still wasn’t the worst I’ve dealt with.

@ Camdenton in the fall of 2019 was the closest I’ve came to knocking out someone in a purple polo in my life.

And to be honest, it isn't just football. I saw the same behavior at our kids and grandkids soccer and basketball games and not just the opposing team. I always felt like I would just stay away if I couldn't control my emotions. My feelings of life success did not depend on my kids success on a field. Go to any school/any team basketball game and you will see it in spades.
I always hated it when fans from both teams were seated on the same side.

It is in HS football, travel league softball/baseball, soccer, you get my point. People are crazy everywhere. News flash to the crazy folks - when you are coaching your kid from the stands, they aren't listening to you. When you are yelling at the coach to run a different play, he isn't going to ask you which one. When you are barking at the officials, they aren't going to come ask your opinion. Just shut up, cheer on the home team, and go home.

Go to a kids wrestling tournament. Holy crap.

It isn't just kids wrestling. When I first went to work in Stl I rode to Stl with a Ste Gen German, WWII marine veteran. L was short. stocky and tough. One week he had free seats on Friday night pro wrestling...I think it was at Kiel Auditorium and the seats were great about 25 rows or so from the ring and on the aisle. During a heated match, fans rushed down to the ring filling the aisles and blocking our view.
L got excited, jumped up and started grabbing fans and pushing them out of the way. And they were all as worked up as he was. I thought we were going to die...lol

You got parents getting into it about 5 year olds wrestling.

Then the dads get involved!!!

It's insane.

Sadly, it isn't just sports where the vitriol shows up. Lots of pent up anger in society today. It's Christmas season and you can see and feel the stress on parking lots and in stores. I don't claim to be perfect by any means but I am aware that honking my horn at someone who cuts me off might get me shot.

Man I parked along Stadium Blvd when I visited Jeff City last week and wore my horn out honking at all the Kearney Hot Moms that were in town visiting the Jays!

No doubt.
As Americans, we have it good.

Imagine being born into a place like Gaza

Valle just sweeps that behavior under the rug. It wasn't any different when Lamar made the trip to SG years ago. I was at that game, and there was a lot of pre game drinking going on, in the grass parking lot next to the stadium.

How many public schools allow public intoxication at their games?

Is it allowed at any school game, No. But to be honest, I see it at every game both visitor and home, private and public. People have really taken the NFL/College tailgating and moved it to the parking lots of high schools. If you see a Yeti cup, 9 out of 10 aren't filled with water. As long people aren't openly showing an open container or acting the fool no one seems to say anything. 🤷‍♂️

I don't think it happens everywhere.

Do they wear their letter jackets?

Let’s not blame the booze. A lot of us can act like idiots at youth and high school sporting events stone cold sober. For real.

I am not normalizing anything. I am reporting what I see at every game I go to.
Well 2 of your away games were at private schools so I can see where you can get confused.

Otherwise, the administration at Battle, Rock Bridge and Smith-Cotton needs to do their jobs.

Mom and dad got me tickets to a Kiel auditorium wrestling show for about my 10th birthday. Dad and a buddy and me and a friend went. The height of the golden days of wrestling, Hogan vs Harley Race, Junk Yard Dog, Iron Sheik days. Don't remember much, but remember the fights in the stands as much as the wrestling. Dad's buddy got hit by a folding chair, dad and about 10 people got a beer thrown across them. Pretty great night for a 10 year old. Look now and you think how could grown men be fighting over pro wrestling?
