The trade gap surged 34.0% to an all-time high of $131.4 billion, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) said. The percentage change was the largest since March 2015. Trump this week slapped a new 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada and doubled duties on Chinese goods to 20%, triggering a trade war.

The Dems may find themselves on the wrong side of this battle too. The UAW president Shawn Fain showed support for president Donald Trump's Tariffs. Most blue collar workers are fine with them in polls if it means forcing companies to bring back middle income jobs. And remember Biden left all of Trumps old tariffs never removing them.

Actually not bad. One is up $27.57 check it out ORLY.
ORLY is the best stock I ever got into bullit!

My great uncle was a counter guy for almost forty years and got stock as an employee profit-sharing perk, left some serious f-u money to his family when he passed.

He gave me 10 shares (it was around 10 bucks/share then) as a graduation gift when I graduated HS and told me to buy all I could, when I could. I did.

GSBC is another local holding I have done very well with.

Did you see the latest polls out 27% approval rating for the Dems. Trump is enjoying his highest ratings. Many people I worked in factories with are cheering on these government firings, as one put it , we see congress taking all these firings to court calling this terrible as all their buddies are being put out of work after years of loyal service, yet as companies closed down factories and moved jobs overseas they just told us that is the future and never shed a tear just sit by and signed more legislation to move jobs overseas.
The dems are still bickering in the rank and file and cannot figure out what direction they need to go.
I just heard a Dem say this in an interview this morning. How can you fight for your policies when the Pubs are using our blue controlled states and what life is like in them against us. We need to be able to point to the states we control and show progress not homelessness taking over the streets.

Yes I agree, however I took my dad to an old retire UAW meeting this weekend and many of those members are willing to feel some pain now if it means bringing back manufacturing jobs.
I think if the Dems would have done more for the Blue collar workers this would not be an issue but at least those in the UAW feel like the Dems have abandoned the working man and instead have taken up more causes for the trans man to play woman's sports. I think if the Dems would just dumped that message and get back to fighting for the working man it would mean more. Sure Biden stood on the picket line. But John Deere and Case got new contracts with then union and then announced they are closing those factories to move production to Mexico, no Dems protested on the door steps of John Deere or Case.

Yep it’s going to hurt but must be fixed. The interest on our national debt is larger than the entire Defense Budget.

I would be good with cutting all funding back to 2019 levels and abolishing every non critical Dept. That would get us to a surplus next year and we could actually write a check to start paying down our debt

That all sounds peachy boys!!! I'm from Missouri!! SHOW ME the tariff war is gonna work!! You don't know, Trump and Elon don't know, nobody knows. We could be headed for long periods of inflation and subsequent recession. Periods as in years!! Those manufacturing plants aren't coming back overnight. With the cheap foreign labor, don't underestimate Corporate America's greed by thinking they are all coming home and pay $25 an hour.. Trump is big on "concepts" and short on details. Remember the farm tariffs in his first term?? What did that do besides put hundreds of small American farmers out of business? China just started buying grains from other countries. I'll save the flag waving for now.

One thing I do know - once prices go up, they are not coming down very quickly, and never back down to pre inflation prices.

Just read an article buy the Michigan Farm Bureau supporting the Canadian tariffs. They claim Canada had a 250% tariff on dairy products from the U.S.

They sure want it seem that simple, don't they:

https://globalnews.ca/news/11080769/donald-trump-tariffs-dairy-products-explained/

"Canada does charge high tariffs on dairy exporters that exceed certain quantities set under North American free trade rules — an agreement re-negotiated by Trump during his first term — but not as steep as Trump claims.

The federal government tells Global News that to date, no U.S. dairy products imported by Canada have been subjected to those higher tariffs.

“We administer the dairy supply management system respecting Canada’s international obligations under trade agreements, whatever the terms of those agreements may be,” Philippe Charlebois, a spokesperson for the Canadian Dairy Commission, said in a statement.

Mary Ng, who served as international trade minister in Justin Trudeau’s government, put it more bluntly last week, telling reporters that Trump’s claims about dairy “are just not true.”

Them pesky details.

Wonder how our friend Arcola stumbled upon that article.

Once prices go up do they ever go down?

“It is accurate that Canada imposes a tariff of approximately 250% on U.S. exports of certain dairy products into Canada, and even more with Canada's 25% retaliatory tariffs in place. However, that tariff would only apply if we were able to reach and exceed the quota on U.S. dairy exports agreed to under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Frustratingly, the U.S. has never gotten close to exceeding our USMCA quotasbecause Canada has erected various protectionist measures that fly in the face of their trade obligations made under USMCA.”

Betsy Rasdall Vargas, senior vice president of trade and workforce policy at the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA)

Honestly I really do.
When you sell specifically into the dairy industry you have to.
Got to keep that milk cool and clean!!!

US exports to Canada of dairy have never went over the threshold that kicks in the 250% tariffs because doing so would make it not a product you could sell at a profit

Yep! Trumps fault for the bird flu. Just like Covid. But don’t worry egg prices are on their way back down.

Nobody thinks avian flu is Trump's fault. You are creating a straw man in place of a rational argument. Granted, they aren't arguing in good faith either, but they are just pointing out that he promised prices would be down the immediately and they aren't. He made promises that literally aren't possible in a free market economy without government interventions, or what you guys like to call socialism.

you mean like trump giving ...wait for it....vaccines to chickens so they wouldn't die?

Phew.

No straw man, just sarcasm but congrats on taking me serious.

Good God, man, that is exactly the point. A sarcastic argument, while intended to be funny or get a rise out of someone, is still a bad-faith argument. I understand your sarcasm, let me make sure you understand your sarcasm: by saying that you are being sarcastic with that comment, you are admitting that you know that liberals don't actually think that Trump is to blame for avian flu or Covid and that you are just playing a game of gotcha. Is this what you are admitting? This is why we can't actually have a productive conversation on an issue: both sides just constantly want to "own" the other side.

There may be several groups who are willing to take the pain, to get jobs back home. The people in the middle will start to shift away and change the approvals just a few percentage points and the congress will lose their guts to stay the course. It will happen before jobs have a chance to be brought back.

Are they ok with not being able to get their Medicaid? Or at least take forever for it to pay their bills?
