Undefeated Odessa' s season ends due to COVID

They will all be physically healthy by the end of the weekend but mentally and emotionally ****ed up for years to come.
You have NO idea what these kids have already endured. Unless, of course, you're from Odessa, then you truly know. They've buried a teammate, a classmate and the mother of 2 current players and 2 former players in the last 4 months. The adults in Odessa's community and schools failed these kids. It's truly heart-wrenching to watch play out.....and now they'll sit at home, isolated, for 2 weeks! It's a recipe for disaster in the worst way. 😢

Bulldogfan you are absolutely right I have a friend with a senior at Odessa and this is heartbreaking that they won't get to make their run again this year. They would have most likely won a back-to-back state title.

It is heartbreaking for them but I would not say most likely won a back to back state title. They would of had their opportunity but anyone can beat anyone on any given day and there is several very good teams still playing in Class 3. I feel for them that they won't be able to continue their postseason bid. It has been a tough year for everyone.

Let's not start with the what ifs and the asterisk stuff. I feel bad for those kids, but there are several teams the could have possibly beat Odessa. Odessa wasn't unstoppable like last year. Defensively they were probably just as good, but offensively they are not.

I've seen film of Odessa, Cardinal Ritter, Lutheran North, Valle and Blair Oaks. They would have a hard time beating any of those other teams. I saw film of Odessa playing Maryville and Southern Boone, two teams Blair Oaks played and beat worse. Blair Oaks beat both those teams with quite a bit more ease than Odessa, especially Maryville. I get Maryville had 4 starters (3 defense and 1 offense) out against Blair Oaks but it wouldn't have really made much of a difference.

St. Mary's looks darn good too. I saw the film of them playing Valle Catholic. Yes Valle beat themselves early in the game but they could not slow down St. Mary's offense what so ever. St Mary's will be hard to beat.

I haven't seen St. Mary's play so I didn't mention them, but like you said they have clearly showed they are capable of beating anyone too.

I agree. These next couple of weeks will be interesting. Especially with Blair Oaks, LN, CR, and St. Marys.

I feel for the Bulldogs, but not sure if they would have won the back to back

All them being on the same side makes for some state final-like matchups!

The next 2 weeks in Class 3 on that side of the bracket are going to be crazy. We could most likely see a repeat matchup of Blair Oaks with Lutheran North next week and the winner would get the winner of most likely between St. Mary's and Cardinal Ritter. Buzz Saw back to back for those teams. Who ever comes out of that should be the Class 3 favorite playing the western team in the state final. What kind of got me thinking is that the Lutheran North / Blair Oaks game would be in Jeff City. If St Marys and or Cardinal Ritter could not host in the semis bc of COVID and Blair Oaks gets past LN then Blair Oaks would not have to leave Jeff City at all in the playoffs.

And if two teams DO make it to the championship game and neither can play do they share the championship or what happens?

I was really hoping for a happy ending for this team. I'm friends with a couple players on the team and I know of the situation you speak. It was a rallying point for those boys to help their teammates in their time of sorrow, and from what I saw against Harrisonville they were putting all of that emotion on the field in a good way. At least those seniors can say they went undefeated their final two years of high school and they do already have a state championship. God Bless them all. Very, very tough situation in Odessa right now.
