I learned some new things and was reminded of other things after watching front line.

1. Columbine led to Gore breaking the tie on gun control vote which led to NRA going crazy and Gore losing Tenn., West Virginia, Arkansas, which led to Bush presidency, which led to Cheney in power, which led to Iraq War, which led to all kinds of bad decisions. Those two punks changed the world.

2. I am amazed at how Columbine and Newtown parents can control their anger.

3. I want to slap any member of Congress who voted against closing the gun show loophole.

4. Ironically, I would like to see every NRA lobbyist and administrator cowering under their desk like the kid in the Columbine library and shot in the face.

I completely did not know the NRA had nothing to do with politics until 1977.
It was actually a great organization prior to that years convention when the money took over.

And changed it for the better thank god.

You people all harp about some gun show loophole.

Of all the killers that have made the news in the last 20 years,,,,how many of them bought their guns at a gun show without a background check???

4. Ironically, I would like to see every NRA lobbyist and administrator cowering under their desk like the kid in the Columbine library and shot in the face.

You want law abiding citizens shot in the face for doing their job? #nutjob

Well since there have been 24,000 shootings so far this year in the USA, I truly don't think anyone can answer that question Steve.

Just take the shootings that have made the news all over the place,,,Columbine, Newtown,Aurora, Charleston. Fort Hood

Name me just one or two,,,they are all studied to death and all over ghe news it should be easy

I know a Columbine gun was purchased at a gun show because that is why people found out the loophole existed. Why is there a loophole and why is it good for America?

I just watched the documentary again. Point out ONE falsehood in the program.

I knew the NRA was powerful, but I did not realize just how powerful they are in politics. They absolutely determined the 2000 election and the course of history.

I also believe that proliferation of gun violence in America is tied to a failure of our criminal justice system, mental health system, and easy accessibility of guns. All factors are linked.

They spent 30 million dollars to get their way. Face it, the NRA is gun manufacturers.

Good story on this subject on 60 Minutes this evening. Mentally ill patients are being denied health insurance coverage at astounding rates. The mental health doctors as well as the families of mentally ill patients are well aware that the person is a danger, yet a corporate doctor for Anthem (in this case) who has never seen the patient determines that the patient is not an immediate danger and denies further in patient coverage. The family is left with their only option of coming up with tens of thousands of dollars to keep the patient hospitalized. One Anthem corporate doctor denied continued hospitalized coverage 95% of the time on mentally ill patients.

Mental illness is not cured in a week or two. We curse these mentally ill people everytime there is another senseless killing by some sick person, yet many times there are many people who know they are a ticking time bomb. Yet corporate greed and profits override common sense decisions and there is nothing that can be done but turn them loose and hope nothing bad happens.

There is something inherantly wrong with our health insurance system. It's not about providing adequate health coverage for people. It's about charging people as much as they can get away with and providing the least amount of treatment possible. It's about PROFITS!!

Universal government sponsored nonprofit health care is the only solution. Private insurance companies are the biggest racket going in our country.

Think about it the next time some psycho goes on a killing spree and we find out that their families and doctors knew it was a matter of time.

Guns and nuts. Great combination.
I will just continue to hide in my basement.

Monday...Davie ,Florida 12 years old girl is shot in the arm during "gun safety" lesson by dad.

Tuesday: 12 year old in St. Francois County Mo. shoots self in face while trying to cross over a fence.

Wednesday: ???

thats stupid, the NRA is ME and millions more everyday gun owners.

The guns used in the Columbine shooting were all aquired legally. The Tec9 they used was bought at an ex gun dealers HOME and not at a gun show at all. The Tec9 was transfered from liscensed inventory to private ownership when the dealer went out of business.

Klebolds girlfriend bought the long guns at a gun show legally, and in Colorado no background check was required to buy them, but about everyone agrees the 18 year old National Honor Society Student with no criminal record would have passed the federal background check easily.

And there has been 1,000,000 abortions.
Abortions are legal. You may not like that fact but it is the law. Shooting people with guns are illegal. To your point I agree with you B&G. Abortions are terrible!!! Apples and Oranges

And gun ownership is legal. What bothers me is there is 24,000 shootings. No breakdown between if that was carried out in self-defense or criminal. Sorry, I didn't look at the documentary. But there is no outrage when 1,000,000 children are killed. I think our priorities are f'd up.

Shooting someone is perfectly legal (in Missouri at least) if you are in fear of bodily harm or death to yourself or another. Just depends on why you shoot them, and some people scare real easy so you need to be carefull getting in someones face :)

BG, it is getting tougher and tougher to find an abortion clinic. Hundreds of doctors have left the field and moved to something else or retired. Some progress has been made.
Laws restricting abortion are being proposed or debated nonstop.

ZERO PROGRESS has been made on the gun violence front and the NRA has blocked even the most reasonable attempts. Gun sales explode every time there is a new mass shooting. It ain't working.

Virginia Tech shooter Cho was diagnosed in middle school with severe anxiety disorder. While at Va Tech, after stalking women, a special justice declared Cho mentally ill and ordered into treatment. Still, he was able to legally purchase the guns used.

In Tuscon/Gabby Gifford shootings, shooter James Loughner's family and friends were well aware of his bizzare behaviors. He was suspended from community college for disruptions and bizzare behavior in classes. Fired from several jobs for bizarre behavior. Still, he was able to legally purchase guns used in attack.

Aurora theater shooter James Holmes had documented evidence of violent thoughts and mental illness. Holmes told his psychiatrist of thoughts of shooting people. He legally purchased his weapons shortly before his assault.

So much for background checks.

I saw the calls with the Anthem doctor and the patient's doctor. That was incredible.

Are you actually saying there is no outrage over abortion? Francis Gerald Grady was apparently outraged in Wisconsin when he planted a bomb at a Planned Parenthood location. Here's a question you should ask, from 2000 to 2006 Republicans who win elections on this issue were in control of the House, Senate, Presidency, and the Supreme Court leaned right. Why do we still have legal abortion? Simple answer, as long as abortion is legal it wins them elections by having a topic to be outraged about, then it is ignored by these same politicians until the next election cycle.

Who do you think funds the NRA? The gun companies are a major part of its budget. They are a big reason why it changed from a hunting/sportsmen's lobby into the de facto lobby of the gun industry.

Follow the money

And periodically the NRA will raise the Red Flag that the government is coming for your guns and there is a run on weapons and ammunition and the weapons manufacturers chuckle all the way to the bank. I saw my neighbor a few years back unloading an army's worth of ammunition from his truck. He took the time to come over and warn me that I'd better stock up because Obama was coming for my guns and ammo next week. I politely asked him if he was coming himself or sending someone because I'd really like to meet the President.

I wonder how much money some people have spent on their guns as a % of their income. It has to be a lot.

The way I read it she shot herself when she was drawing the weapon out of her dads pocket,, report wasnt real clear. Either way her dad couldnt be very smart and the apple dont fall far from the tree.

Kids get injured and killed riding bikes, swimming, skiing, playing baseball, being a batboy, drinking bleach and a thousand other ways. The world is a place they have to learn to live in and take care of themselves. I bet that little girl is carefull with a gun from now on

OMG Dangos please quit posting this crap

If the truth is crap you better get used to the smell I guess

Were is the outrage for all the children who don't have a home. In the U.S. 397,122 children are living without permanent families in the foster care system. 101,666 of these children are eligible for adoption, but nearly 32% of these children will wait over three years in foster care before being adopted. So you want to add 1,000,000 more children to a messed up system already. What have you done to help? How many foster kids do you take in per year how many have you adopted?

Serious issues here.

The Aurora shooter, James Holmes was a mental case by anyone's standards yet people somehow still believe that only if he had no access to guns, 12 people would still be alive.

01) What about the two tear gas grenades he used in the theater?

02) What about the home made explosives that he used to arm his own apartment with?

03) What about the gas mask he wore in anticipation of a police response ?

04) What about the ballistic helmet he used to protect his own head from return fire?

05) What about the bullet-resistant leggings wore to assure movement throughout the multiplex ?

06) What about the bullet-resistant throat protector, found anywhere online?

07) What about the EXIT door he used to re-enter the building?

08) What about the groin protector he also was able to obtain with no problem?

Point is this man was mentally ill by anyone's definition yet he still was able to do everything above.

Do we now need new laws that put an end to tactical clothing?

Do we need armed guards at the EXIT doors of movie theaters?

Do smoke grenades have no use in our society due to the possibility of miss use?

Will laws against guns stop someone like this again from simply using another vehicle of death???

Perhaps a semi truck intentionally parked on a bridge next to a river with a train in route.

A fire intentionally set on a Cruise Liner with EXIT doors chained shut.

Or what if the next perpetrator is not mentally ill?

These are all questions you will not find on any PBS program addressing guns or the NRA...
