From 1989 to 2019, Webb goes to the semi-final game 24 seasons resulting in 18 trips to State and 15 state titles. Incredible.
I prefer better games over the same percentages. Been fun, but time to go up a class or two. Congrats to coach Rod on his 12th State Championship. What an incredible ride its been. Given the run in the last 10 years, it appears to be improving NOT slowing. A point system really does make sense. See you all next year.

Winning HALF the state titles over 30 years is incredible.

WC and about 20-24 other Class 4 programs will be moving up next year based on my understanding of the new classifications.

Only problem with that is how much would that change? Same conference games will be played then repeated during districts. Might get two games with different foes than the last few years is all. And no I am not saying WEBB will have the continued success in class 5, okay (not out loud anyway), but I mean schedule will change very little..

Staley will be just fine...................

Yes they will. I think the primary differences are that Webb City would have to play Carthage twice each year like in years past but the quarterfinal match-up would likely still be the same but a semifinal game against Staley or Vianney (in s good recruiting year....) will be no picnic.

Time to make 5 classes and them be equal size ..with a large and small class for private schools and fix it and be done with it.

I don’t like the idea of arbitrarily moving schools up because they are successful. So you are telling kids you work your tail off every year to be the very best you can be, and instead of being rewarded you are penalized for your effort?????

Funny how you act as if they didn't shut down Webb's run game...shoulda seen your faces after that blocked punt LOL...I wouldn't expect you to give them any credit, but that game would've ended completely differently without that blocked ridiculous FGA and you know it. The freshman and sophs that the WC spread beat in the secondary went from being the weakness early on to a strength at the end and winning some games themselves.
Carthage has some incredible football classes coming up and with them making the championship (and especially if they win) a huge weight is off the back of the program.
It'll be a bit more difficult than you think.

cTOWN has usually been tough games. Some of you need to comprehend wth you read. The point was made “need to move up and see different games”! All that is being said was that moving up only changes a couple games a year! Same conference games, then at least one or two of those games will be repeated in districts. Nobody said cARTHAGE was easy or will be and nobody bragged as Kenny is adhering to and Dick liking the comment. Just made the point a couple opponents will change at the very end of the season..

Do you honestly think that holding Webb to 286 yards on the ground is shutting down our rushing game???

Don’t waste your time. 2 wins against us in the last thirty or so games, like Jnet with Kearney just smile and shake your head....

All I’m going to do is enjoy this Title and worry about next year, next year. Hats off to the coaches, kids, parents and fans. Great ride!

No the classes behind you are penalized

or you can tell your kids. Listen. Great athletes want to compete against other great athletes that challenge them. You tell them. Why do you think The Bama’s of the world continue to sign 4 star athletes even when that athlete knows there is a few four or 5 stars ahead of them.

Im my eyes your way of thinking teaches the kids to wine about how life isn’t fair. Getting tired of that approach parents and coaches who instill that into our kids. Everyone is afraid of failure. Why do we teach kids that losing is a bad thing or like its an admission or failure. Wait till they get in the real world and “work their tails off” to get a certain contract, only to lose out to someone else. Maybe to someone who has better resources or didnt work quite as hard. “But but my coach and parents said that wouldn’t be fair. I should have gotten that contract. Sniff sniff”

I don't think it is being penalized. I would think a school like Webb would be bored with class 4 and would want a challenge.

I guess your comment is true to a point. At the same time though your argument is kids should accept losing and be okay with it. If you lose that big contract shouldn’t you be pissed? Take WEBB out of the equation and give their success to an average Class 4 school. Moving up because of winning automatically could send their program spiraling because they just don’t have the kids on the sidelines to compete. That’s also why I said take WEBB out of it. WEBB has a bunch of kids waiting to be next. Average teams we face through the season have upwards of 30 less players. Wasn’t always this way but since 08-09 we’ve been very fortunate as very very few see both sides of the field as compared to the old days.

Indiana has been doing this for years now, and it has worked great for almost all. This rule is especially great I think for class 4 where there is so much disparity. Did you know no team from the lower half of class 4 has ever won a state championship? Im not only in favor of moving programs up to compete better, which is what all sports teams should want. Win or lose, just be able to compete. But Im also ok with moving programs down if they aren't doing well at all. What good is a school that has 1000 kids but barely get enough out for football.

Lastly. WHERE THE HELL DID I SAY A KID SHOULD BE OK WITH LOSING? I've been on many teams that lost a lot. I hated it, but I learned just as much during those years as I did on my winning teams. But if you think you are going to have a kid that wins at every little thing he/she does in life, your in for a sad life, and a kid who doesn't know how to handle things when things don't go their way. Under this system a team is only going to move up and feel what it MIGHT be like to lose, only if they already had the feeling what its like to win at their current class.

I have seen this posted a few times. Does anyone actually have the data to prove this? Just curious.

Just in your comment “why do we teach kids losing is a bad thing”. My belief because it is? My thought is you learn losing is okay then you think why should I bust my ass if it’s okay to lose? Is that not true? I’m not going to kill my self for nine months because I know you are going to beat me. I’m going to bust my ass because I know I’m going to beat you. Just like the contract comment. Loose one to Bobby, okay let’s work a little harder. Lose two and your out the door and Bobby’s getting a raise to come over and replace you. Take WEBB for instance they have bought in. They know they follow this line, bust your butts and work hard and you are going to win. They expect to win. Then take just for, Mac County. They go into the game against WEBB already beat. Why, because they accept it. All kids, all have the same weights the same heat to work out in, they all strap on the jocks the same way, they just all don’t have the mindset or belief that they are going to win. I believe that 100%.. not trying to be a jerk I just think the motivation of winning is the only motivation to put yourself through what you do in most sports especially extremely physical ones ala Football. Wrestling etc..

Show me a good and gracious loser and I'll show you a failure.

Webb was a smaller class 4 until they switched to 6 classes. When MSHSAA switched to 6 classes it watered everything down. Webb’s first few championship runs they had to go thru the likes of Ray-Pec, Rock Bridge, Sumner, Park Hill etc... Now you still have your Camdenton’s but it’s watered down! MSHSAA go back to 5 classes!!!! With all the schools that now co-op just to field a team and a TON of schools going 8-man this is the only way it will bring balance to the FORCE!!

My god people they already do this in youth sports. I remember in club baseball when I coached. Our new team started as a AA team. We did well enough. Won a lot of games and we were forced to move up to AAA. “Sorrry kids this is your punishment for winning?” Hell no. I never let one kid or parent take that way of thinking. You know what. We didnt do quite as well the first year, but did the second year And if we would have gotten clobbered in it, we would have been able to move back down. Sound familiar?

Motocross is the same way. You win you move You know club basketball tournaments TRY to bracket you in like minded “competitiveness”. Except you get those coaches who like to sandbag and lie about their teams ability

club volleyball. You get bracketed in bracket play based on how you did in pool play. Hmmm so thats punishing a team for winning? Your putting them in like minded level of competition. And theres other spirts as well

Geesh. For football being supposedly one of the most physical sports. It sure has some of the softest minded people in it.

Agreed with every thing you just said except for this. Losing isnt the bad thing. Not doing everything you mentioned in your post to avoid losing is the bad thing. I would bet THAT is what Webbs coaches preach. And they don’t let their players not do everything. That is what the kids buy into. Do you think Webb losing last year taught them anything? Motivated them to become better than ever? Where the hell did i ever say you dont teach your kids everything you said in your post? And I never said you must like losing. I bet you the webb kids who were on last year and this years team learned more from last years loss than this years win

so let me ask you. How do you think Webbs coaches are going to address them moving up in class to their kids? I already know the answer btw. But please share

When WC lost 4 games in 2016 and only made it to the quarterfinals in playoffs the 2017 season theme was the redemption tour as they avenged every loss and had an undefeated title year so there’s that. Some take on challenges while others struggle with being challenged.
