when you pluck a manager from the Chesterfield Valley youth leagues. Completely mis-managed. Unreal. I'd bet if the Birds canned him tomorrow, he wouldn't get a sniff from another major league club.

3.5 million reasons the Cardinals don't care

The big wigs of the Cardinals will stick with Matheny because 3.5 million fans are pouring dollars into their coffers.
Talent can get you into the playoffs. But you can't be a dumb ace and win the world series. Not pitching around Big Poppy
and now this bizarre crap....omg. Wacha in the game after 20 days off? Really?????

If they disable Yadi, we could have added another pitcher. If they put Wacha on the shelf we could have added another player. Lordy.

I like Mike Matheny as a person and he is a man of exceptional character. I believe his character is a big plus when it comes to leading a group of men. That being said, the roster decisions and field decisions crippled the Cardinals in this series. The decision of putting Wacha on the roster was just plain stupid, and pitching him tonight was plain insane.

Wainright coming out after absolutly cruising throught the 7th? He deserved to be out there with the game on the line.

I thought having Molina bunt the other night was one of the worst calls of the year, but this takes the cake.

It would be a lot more logical to just not have had Wacha on the roster than DLing Yadi. Further, one could also argue for putting Freeman on over Gonzalez if the goal was just to get another arm.

The Cards had a decent pen in Neshek, Martinez, Choate, and Rosie - you weren't going to suddenly find something lights out on the 40 man that's better than them. You have to ride your guys. We didn't bench Peralta for sucking because we know he's our best SS. You have to do the same with your pen to a certain extent. Choate is clearly the best lefty on the roster. You had to use him if you needed a lefty over a guy who couldn't even make the 25 man roster in August. I can understand moving Rosie around given his control problems, but the solution to him was Neshek or Martinez, not some guy who isn't even on the roster.

Re: 3.5 million reasons the Cardinals don't care

Peralta was our best offensive SS, not our best SS. In the playoffs he was not even good offensively and he pretty much sucked with RISP all year. He had 21 HR's but not the RBI count that should go with that.

Re: 3.5 million reasons the Cardinals don't care

Come on peralta is our best SS by a mile. Lets not be too revisionist because he had a bad October.

Don't get too caught up in RISP numbers. That's luck. Allen Craig had one of the best seasons in history with RISP in 2013. We saw how he did in 2014.
