The Mount Rushmore monument was carved for the wonderful things these Presidents accomplished, not everything in their lives was considered. It's not a monument to slavery.
No question TJ had 600 slaves. He did not live up to what he wrote about for the United States in his lifetime. A life lived well short of his words, this can be applied to all human beings do to a degree.
TJ, slave owner, writer of the DOI, among other accomplishments, wrote the founding document that made the eradication of slavery possible. Words used by Lincoln and Douglas put America on its way to ending the great evil of slavery.

TJ,Ben Franklin and Adams wanted slavery abolished by the declaration of independence. But many colonies for economic reasons wouldn't ever vote Yes for independence from the crown if that was the case. They had to forgo that issue, clearly TJ was a paradox and pragmatic to the issue. While he might of believed that slavery was wrong he wasn't willing to give up his station for the cause. He also paid some and allowed profit sharing as well...of course they where complacent in keeping their fellow brethren in line. The issue of the past is very complex and shouldn't be judged per say by us in the present.
All of the TJ statue destroyers would have protested against slavery in 1776. Everyone was wrong except them. TJ wrote the words that ended slavery on this continent in less than 100 years. It's only been 165 years?

I guarantee you that 98% of ALL Americans do not agree with totally defunding the police, tearing down the monuments of great AMERICANS, taking your guns away, opening the borders, or any other stereotype you want to throw out there. That is total nonsense, and none of it is going to happen. That is equivalent to dems saying the all reps are white supremist. The extreme fringe exists in both parties, so in the political gamesmanship of today we attach every radical cause of both parties to the entire rank and file, and that is pure BS.
Both parties are splitting right now. My hope is a truly influential, moderate third party is born.
The problem is that there are some issues on which some people feel so strongly about that they are willing to over look many of the flaws in a candidate to make sure they are elected for that one soul purpose. One that you hear more than anything is the selection of the supreme court and other judges, because our legislation body can be turned over so easily every four years, electing officials for the soul purpose of selecting judges to support your cause years after the person you voted for is gone has become the objective of many elections and one the candidates run on. This presidential race is less about policies and more about who gets to pick the next judge as they now seem to have become more powerful in shaping the direction of our country today and not our elected officials.
Also, I think the presidential race has become one big popularity contest. It's not about the issues. It's about who looks and does better in front of the camera. Trump's appeal for many voters in '16 was a lot of "shock and awe" appeal, someone who didn't talk and act like a typical politician. Obama, Bushes, Clinton, Reagan, Carter - I think the moderates and undecideds in the end voted for the person they liked better on a personable level.
The debates are huge on personal appeal. I hate the way the debates are ran. How in the hell can you give a specific answer with details on something as detailed as an economic plan when you are given 90 seconds to answer? If you asked me about my foreign policy, for instance, I can BS my way for 90 seconds and hit all the talking points and cliches, and not really have a detailed, extensive plan on foreign policy. I wish they would let the presidential candidates talk for 10 minutes at a time, and give the opponent equal time to respond. Why should they only be given 90 seconds to explain complicated issues. Let's hear the in depth, extensive details of a candidate's plan and give each candidate a chance to fully explain their stance on the issues.
The debates are going to be fun. Neither candidate is strong on details.

Biden's Infrastructure Plan is an actual plan, not just telling Congress he wants $2.1 Trillion for YUUGE, "Biggest, best ever, MAGA" infrastructure spending...with no clear plan presented.
Investing in green energy is the future, whether you believe it's feasible or not, Biden's plan to put 400 billion into research and development on renewable energy sources is a step in the right direction.

He's running the national debt through the roof, spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave. He has done NOTHING to try to unite the country, and everything to divide us. He led the reps to cheat their way through the impeachment process by having a trial that wasn't really a trial. He has totally blown the covid and the protesters. Every decision he makes is to benefit Donald Trump.

Our tax cut is due to expire in 2025. The tax cut for the wealthy and corporations has no expiration date and will continue, (at least until Biden repeals it). I wonder who that benefits more?????
Reps always talk about Obama running up the debt, but now it's Congress running up the debt. How convenient. Besides the fact that Trump was on pace to outspend Obama BEFORE covid, and Obama's debt included the bailouts from '08 recession. Trump's debt from covid is in addition to he debt he was racking up pre covid, including $10 trillion over 10 yrs from the tax cut for the wealthy.
Trump made one prepared, emotionless speech expressing sorrow the day after George Floyd's death. He hasn't mentioned it since or any other recognition of police violence against blacks in general. He has expressed no empathy. He is the president and is suppose to represent all Americans. Instead, all he talks about is the evil left wing rioters, anarchists, criminals, antifa, etc. Not one speech about how all Americans need to come together and
recognize that police violence against blacks exists and need to be addressed.
Trump failed to cooperate with the Russian investigation, instructed WH staff not to cooperate or testify, and Mueller report cited numerous obstruction of justice instances. Then, Trump's own hatchet man Barr decides what sections of the released report will be blacked out. The House portion of the impeachment was the investigative phase to determine if there was enough evidence to proceed to the Senate for trial, much as a grand jury determines if a trial is granted. The reps in the Senate under the encouragement of Trump predetermined before the trial ever started to refuse to allow additional witnesses and testimony. There was no trial. Only a sham led by trump.

And my wife is in a school district with 14,000 families and 22,000 students. A survey went out 2 weeks ago asking questions about whether or not they want their kids to go back to school. 75% want them back in the classrooms. And this is in St. Louis.
I already know exactly how the Ste. Gen community feels. I know a lot of teachers there, as do you. But obviously you and I would eat at separate lunch tables.
You should ask your fellow Dems that question. I don't see Reps running around looting and destroying their cities.
