March 15 in Springfield:

St. Louis Chaminade---26-2
time--6:50 PM
Columbia Rock Bridge-27-1

St. Louis Webster-------20-9
time---8:30 PM
Kansas City Liberty-----22-7

The Chaminade--Rock Bridge appears to be a toss up. Both teams are very good.

Webster Groves has lost 9 games to date but the Statesmen are the favorite to win it all on Sat. evening . Game time 4:30 PM

Webster has the top two rated players in Missouri.

1. C. Gordon 6'8"--will attend St. Louis University this fall.
2. Courtney Ramey 6'4" combo guard who is undecided.

Could someone make a case for Chaminade, Rock Bridge or Liberty to spoil Webster's party this weekend in Springfield?

I have watched Webster Groves play a couple times this year and they just look like they’re the team to beat Not sure if the other three can pull it off Will be fun to watch though

Well Rock Bridge looked unbeatable in the first half. Up 18 points at one point late in first. 16 at half I think. And wouldn’t say that they played bad second half. Chaminade just played better. Three point shot at the buzzer almost rimmed in. What a game!!!

washMO, Tell us about the crowd in the class 5 semi-finals? I'm guessing Rock Bridge fans came in force. I'll be there for the Sikeston-Grandview game on Friday.

Well it was really sparse for the girls games. Rock Bridge had decent crowd. Their game had maybe 40% of seats filled on lower level.

Class 4-5 is just a totally different atmosphere. In Class 1-3 the lower bowl was essentially full for several games. In those smaller classes entire towns come to watch their team play. There just isn't that kind of support in the large classes beyond the immediate school communities. Springfield would never turn out to watch Kickapoo play, for example. Much of Springfield despises Kickapoo. At Kickapoo girls' games during the season, it's pretty much just the parents and a few others who go. Not even a student section, never the pep band. Kind of sad given the history of success for that program, but that's the way it is.

Well I can tell ya Sikeston will storm in there with several 1000

Sikeston Train and others the class 4 Sikeston Bulldogs appear to have the # 1 fan support in Missouri among our large schools. The city of Sikeston is growing but have not lost their small town values when supporting their local sports teams.
Most of our large high schools students, parents and alums in metro areas have other interest and do not support high school sports. I guess I'm old fashion but I still find it refreshing to be @ a high school basketball game. Lots of my friends still talk about the top high school basketball teams and players all over the state.
We still have a few high schools that have old time values but they appear to be fading fast in favor of other activities.

We know Sikeston fans are number one @ the present and will prove that tonight in Springfield. Can we name other class 4 and 5 schools who could be like Sikeston if they had the chance?

What happened to Springfield being a Basketball town and filling the stadium up? NOT! 1 bathroom and 1 concession stand at the old arena DID NOT WORK!

Winning brings out the fans for semo teams, even the girl's games. If you don't win you don't draw so much. Sad that even winning teams don't draw much in other places.

Student section for Liberty girls maybe a dozen kids this morning. St Joeseph Academy has 0.

Liberty boys game maybe 20. Rock Bridge 0

And...... The advantages of moving the games to Springfield?

The attendance at today's 3rd place games are not really a good way to determine if the move was good or not....traditionally they were not well attended in Columbia.

I think the move from Class 4-5 to the second weekend is a biggest issue. Many if not all of the STL schools are either on break this week or start break today. People have commitments to go out of town and don't change them based on state basketball.
I would be interested in looking at data from when the Class 4-5 was a week earlier to see what attendance was like then.
I am making an assumption but would be willing to be that most of the schools that went to Class 1-3 don't have spring break and wouldn't have attendance issues this weekend.

Rolla has generated a nice fan base with the success the last few seasons. 4 years ago in the quarterfinal in Bolivar, we packed SBU. It would have been a very large crowd in Columbia if not for a last second shot. The student section, the 6th Man, is large and very active. Provides a fun environment for teams to play. Alas, Rolla has missed out on opportunities 3 of the last 4 years where they have enjoyed success and top 10 Class 4 rankings.

You’re right third place games aren’t a good evaluation. Miller Career vs Carl Junction coming up. Theres nobody here. But, A lot of St. Louis teams don’t travel well. Economic probably.

On the attendance note. I hear they drew 16,000 last weekend here.

Maybe have the bigger schools in Columbia and small down here.

Location isn’t the issue...I really think it’s the week.

Plus some of the schools there are playing for the third, fourth or more times. After a while it becomes just a thing....

I heard it was 25,000 last weekend. This week was going to be far below last week, because large schools no longer support their sports teams. It's plain and simple. I recall Marquette bringing nearly the entire student body to the Final Four in '10? '09? Anyway, I doubt something like that will ever happen again. I don't know why, but student attendance at Class 4-5 sporting events is half of what it was even ten years ago. Glendale had good student support for boys basketball in '05-'06, '08-'09, '10-'11, then it just dropped off the cliff and has yet to return. I've seen the same thing at the other SPS schools. Even with the run Kickapoo went on '15-'17 you couldn't even being to compare the student crowds to those that watched the '01-'03 POO teams.
