Just wanted to give athletics in general a shout-out on here.

Girls just won state golf team title and it wasn’t even close for the team title.
also had the individual state champion in golf as well as 3 of the top 10 finishers and 4 of the top 18.

Volleyball is heading to Columbia for the final 4 this weekend

Boys and Girls XC are both headed to state

The football team is 8-1 heading into this Fridays district matchup.

not a bad showing this fall.

One of these years the districts are going to get so jacked up that there will be a QF or SF matchup between say Hayti and East Buch or something crazy(or just a boot heel/NWMO matchup in general)
when it does, that will be almost a 500 mile trip for a playoff game.

Oh totally agreed. Hell, I’m of the opinion if ain’t broke don’t try to fix it. I honestly just couldn’t remember if that’s where it was forever.

MSHSAA ruined basketball final four the moment they took away championship night. There were actually crowds for finals back then. What the kids competing deserve to play in front of.

Cape is a long trip for pretty much everyone. Gotta love the great planning by MSHSAA.

In 2025 it's being moved to St. Joseph, not much better for most people

Not necessarily the cheapest, but what was available. All championships should be held in Columbia in my opinion. But I know some events were moved away from Columbia because of scheduling conflicts within the University Athletics program. I know it is not ideal for fans to travel so far, that stinks that many may not travel to cheer there team on. With ability to watch games streamed I'm not sure many would travel too far anyway. For the players and parents travel really is secondary to the experience they will get for playing in a final four and opportunity to play for a state title.

These small schools really travel with their kids. East Buch not being able to move their football game up one day is an absolute travesty. It's an awesome sight when all teams involved have their entire towns at these games. Some great memories and something these smaller towns cherish.
