Duck do you still think the Cardinals should go after him? It appears the Marlins are going to offer him a 325 million dollar,13 year contract with their first ever no trade claus. I wonder what they'll be getting for their money in the last fews of that deal.

He is young enough that there is a slight chance he will be worth it, but I doubt it. No contract for that much money and time has worked out that I can think of. Stanton is putting a lot of trust in an owner who has always said he will do what it takes to build a winner then get rid of all the talent when his profit margin doesn't come through. Good sign for other teams because probably after next year they will start unloading some of that young talent they have.

With Stanton it was always a question of if they would trade him.

With that deal he's there for at least one more year.

He has to take that contract.

If he doesn't take that contract he's Looney Toons. A no trade clause just means he can veto any trade, not that they can't float a deal in front of him if they want to dump his contract. Or if HE wants to jump ship because they sold every other good player they have they can trade him to unload his big money deal too. I'd bet they will have to pick a good portion of his deal if they do though. I wonder what an injury insurance policy costs on a guy with that kind of long term big money deal.

Supposedly it also has a player opt out at five years. Insurance for Stanton against Miami selling off over and over.

They must have let his agent write up the offer by himself. Ain't nobody worth that much for that long.

It's all relative. That's about fair value for him. Have to consider that the revenue of baseball continues to grow at 5-10 percent a year. Inflation is different in baseball. He's also young enough that they are buying a lot of good years of his career.

The only thing I don't like is the opt out is too early for a 13 year deal. Eight years of insurance is too much to offer in case he gets hurt.

Keep in mind that Miguel Cabrera just got an extension of 31 M per year for 8 years beyond the two years remaining on his deal and he's about five years older. Stanton really should get a better deal that that given his age. He's just as good a player.

Stanton would have received an offer of at least 300 M/10 years on the free agent market.
