St. Mary's is coached by Bryan Turner--CBC is coached by Justin Tatum. This was a game of interest for me to attend and I was not disappointed. CBC is rated # 5 in St. Louis while St. Mary's is rated # 1 in small schools. ( Final score 88-62 )
St. Mary's 7-0 was playing fast while CBC was trying to play slow using their size advantage. ( 6'11" and 6'7" ) Playing fast won this game with the clock running with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter @ St. Mary's. Four year starter Yahuza Rassas 6'7" with a 12.7 PPG did not play but will return their next game.
If St. Mary's continue to play like they did last night, they will be difficult to beat and the class 4 state championship is within reach. I saw quickness, great pressure defense, great rebounding, great 3 point shooting and free throw shooting by # 1 St. Mary's.
I drop by the Webster classic after the St. Mary's beating to see Northwest Academy and Kansas City Staley. This was like a grade school game compared to the uptempo game the St. Mary's Dragons play.
St. Mary's top six players:
1. Donavanne Austin--Sr. 6'3"------9.1 PPG
2. Antonio Burks--------Sr. 6'3"-----14.9 PPG
3. Miles Jones-----------Sr. 6'5"-----12.9 PPG
4. Dominic Mitchell-----Sr. 6'4"-----16.1 PPG
5. Yahuza Rassas------Sr. 6'7"-----12,7 PPG
6. Yuri Collins------------Jr. 5'11"----14.0 PPG
The Drogans plays 10 players effectively.
St. Mary's will play Northwest Academy ( Class 3 state championship ) next week.
I see another Vashon-St. Mary's sectional game latter in Feb. and I can see a Sikeston-St. Mary's game in the class 4 quarter finals for the trip to Springfield.
