St. Louis Private Schools vs. Public Schools?

Kareem and Jaron were close to unstoppable, beating the biggest class #1s on a regular basis. You had Javon Crudup and Chris Lindley at Ray South and then Derek Hood & Tyron Lue in these parts leading up to them as well. Special time in KC basketball history.
Give or take the same time Ryan Robertson, Jimmy McKinney, Larry Hughes, Jahidi White, and Loren Woods were on the east side of the state. The 90s had some serious talent in MO basketball. Now the talent isn't as good and it has been spread across two more classes.

And that is the reason Norm got lead out to pasture. Didnt get any of that talent.

Just think if Chris had not had his terrible accident. I talked with Coach Lathrop one time and he said Javon Crudop was the hardest worker he ever had. He said he has the all time record for miken drill dunks for him.

If Norm had just had that one break thru final four appearance the recruits would have been easier to land.

I can only speak to MICDS, there aren’t any scholarships for football. I think I saw 300 students get financial aid, but the k-12 has 1200 kids so, 900 kids are paying full tuition of 25k- 30k.

The financial aid paperwork may not mention sports, but if you're suggesting that athletic ability isn't a factor for many kids then I got a bridge to sell you to Kaskaskia.

I mean I have personal experience with it, so I’ll stand behind what I said.

Just to play Devil's Advocate...If 300 students are receiving financial aid, that's 1/4 of the population. Is it a real stretch to assume that a few skill position players are getting financial aid? I get what you're saying, and have actually heard the same about MICDS. But still, I think you can at least acknowledge the possibility exists.

Yes. and NCAA D III schools do not give athletic scholarships either, BUT........

That’s 300 out of the entire school, not just high school. I totally agree a football player can get a scholarship. What I am saying is the acceptance board does not care if you play football or how good you are, the process and the family interview and the SSAT scores weigh heavily on the decision.

Go look up the ssat test.

MICDS enrollment 1,247 students. • Upper School (grades 9-12) - 624. • Middle School (grades 5-8) - 404. • Lower School (grades JK-4) - 219.

To clarify, half of their students are in grades 9-12.

That’s totally fine, and maybe some kids are getting “football” scholarships, except every high level kid they have on that team right now has been at the school well before high school.

I have two kids, one was very good at football and the coach wanted him to play there and he did poorly on the SSAT and the interview and did not get accepted, went on to play in high school and college. My other child, didn’t play football, and did well on the test and interviews and got accepted, then I got a 2nd job so they could attend MICDS. So when you tell me, you are for sure certain that they are giving scholarships to kids because they are good I think you’re entirely full of sht, because you haven’t been in the system like I have. Sure I’m one family, but I can tell you my situation with acceptance to the school isn’t unique at all.

It’s entirely possible that they have really good coaching staff and the pressure these kids deal with on a daily basis with school work and expectations makes them better in pressure situations and they end up playing well above the ability level they would normally be at.
