St. Louis Area Basketball Thread

just playing by covid rules in STL County!
lol
I can’t wait until people regain common sense and a younger generation asks questions.
-What’s up with the masks dad?
- Oh see, there was this “killer virus” going around and we had to wear the mask to keep the virus from spreading.
-Was the virus transmitted from your chin?
-Well, no. What a silly question.
-Speaking of silly...What’s up with the bench chairs being so far apart?
-Oh yeah, that was for social distancing. Had to stay six feet apart to stay safe and keep the virus from transmitting from person to person.
-Wow. How did you play basketball and not get within six feet of each other?
-Well see, the social distancing was just when we came out of the game and sat on the bench.
-(dumbfounded and stupid look from the youngster)

Most of us in north Missouri (including, or especially, the two programs I cover, Princeton and Mercer) didn't do any of this silly crap.

Clearly you don't live under the regime of the great czar Sam Page "the great". If it was up to him kids in St. Louis county wouldn't have played sports over the past year.

Poplar Bluff just beat Oakville in their sectional game and Chaminade beat Marquette so Chaminade will travel to P.B. for the quarter final game. I haven't heard much about Chaminade this season, I know they're usually very good and have some size in the lineup. Anyone care to tell me what they're like this season?

Well I'm too late since they beat Poplar Bluff 69-55. The Red Devils are the big favorites to win state, but Fort Zumwalt North can challenge them as can Kickapoo. It won't be easy for Chaminade given the way they've played thus far in the playoffs.

Yeah I figured they were pretty big and good, P.B. put up a fight. They kept it pretty close at halftime and had out rebounded them. They had a terrible 3d quarter and got down by 22 points before a big come back in the 4th. P.B cut the lead to 8 at one time but just couldn't keep it going. Not bad for a team with no one over 6'2" and did not have good night from the 3 point line.

No sir. Mercer County borders Iowa. Mr. Page wouldn't know how to deal with us country folks.

That's crazy PB had nobody over 6-2 and didn't shoot that well from deep. If I had known PB was that small I would've predicted Chaminade to win by at least 30 lol. The Mules must be well coached to make it that competitive of a game even despite if Chaminade laid an egg to their standards.

MaxPreps just ranked Chaminade as the 33rd best team in the country. Odd how they lost to Vashon this season and the Wolverines are ranked 76th. I'd be a bit hard pressed if I were in their camp, but MaxPreps typically don't have good rankings anyway.

There's a very strong chance a St. Louis school will be crowned the state champion in Classes 4-6 this week. Chaminade is the favorite in 6, but don't count out Fort Zumwalt North. The Red Devils shouldn't look past Kickapoo especially with the way they seemingly have played their last three games. Tarris Reed and Damien Mayo might be the best guard-center duo in the state. North might have the best trio in KJ Lee (6-7), Connor Turnbull (6-10), and Drake Stevenson (6-5). Turnbull especially has played like a man possessed in the playoffs and IMO will get some D1 offers very soon. North is playing in their first final four ever.

In Class 5, I think it's Cardinal Ritter's to lose. Got past a slightly overrated, but talented U-City team in overtime in the district championship and then sneaked past a very good, well-drilled De Smet team (only team to beat Vashon this year) also on the road. Talented, tall, and very aggressive defensive team. Mario Fleming (1k points), Braxton Stacker, and Robert Lewis (6-8) are trouble. Very good, underrated defensive back-court as well, and have one of the best full-court traps in the state.

In Class 4 it'll probably be Vashon. Hard to see Blair Oaks stopping them after what Vashon did to New Madrid County Central. In the other semifinal, Westminster is playing to their potential after beating a very good MICDS team, Lutheran St. Charles, and then somewhat embarrassed Father Tolton. I don't know anything about Barstow, but Westminster is young, but most of their key players were key guys on last years elite 8 team and have been there before.
