I know there was a proposal for Girls Basketball to be placed in Classes and Districts independently from boys based on number of Girls schools playing basketball. Does anyone know if that proposal passed?

The only differences I see this year are private schools that are in different classes.

Nothing “passes” based on the February questionnaire, it is to see if there is enough interest to place it on the ballot in May.

Do not like that idea at all. It would penalize small schools that have built and have a very popular program because EVERYONE plays. I could also see some school "cutting" to get down to a certain roster size.

How would that penalize them?
I think they're talking about the districts in SEMO with 1 or 2 teams in them.

Most districts have boys and girls playing different nights. Not sure the travel would be a big issue in light of that.

Never

Never heard of district games having anything to do with the size of a team's roster.

This makes zero sense

why should a school with 250 students have to compete with a school that has 1500 students simply because they both get 20 girls out to play basketball? That is what I am saying.

This makes no sense. Not sure you understand the questionnaire.

Just leave the word "roster" out of it and say "enrollment" and you'll make a lot more sense. This argument has been goin for a LONG time. Now it has led us to 6 classes in basketball and THAT is what's crazy!

Maybe I misunderstood or maybe mosooner misunderstands....but it isnt about grouping girls based on the roster size, but making it so that there are not districts with 1 or 2 schools in it because they are connected to a boys district. They should be able to group the girls districts (in still the same class) together to form a district with several teams.

That's my read on it as well. Look at the SEMO girls districts. There is no excuse for that. Minimum should be 6 teams per district. They usually don't play on the same nights as boys so the 'travel' excuse is out the window.

Perhaps I misunderstood the question... It would not be the first time, nor the last...

None of that has anything to do with the number of players on the roster.

For the most part I think the Classes have been alright. Class 1, 2, 3, and 4 districts I have seen are fairly good geography and school wise. Class 5 and 6 should be merged. Weird the biggest schools only have 1 playoff game before the final four.

I don't know what they were thinking with the new district deal in class 5 and 6. P.B and Jackson are the only class 6 teams in the semo area. The boy's will travel to host Webster Groves for the first round then the winners all have to go to St.Louis U in downtown St.Louis for the semis and finals of the district. Lot's of travel or motel expenses for a district tourney.

Who is that true for? They are all in 8-team districts and then have the quarterfinals game. That would be 4 playoff wins to get to the final 4.

Today's paper in P.B. now says they will not play the first round at Webster Groves, all games show they are at SLUH the high school. The way it read before I thought that they were going to St. Louis University for the last two days, my bad. Still not so good for Jackson and P.B.
The Class 6 District 1 girls will play at CorJesu so kinda the same deal for Jackson and P.B. I guess someday we'll get to host that district but I wouldn't bet on it, we'll be outvoted by the St.Louis schools every time.

We have 1 seeds driving over an hour 3 times in classes 5 and 6. If you are going to have 8 team districts, do it like football.

This is literally how it was done last year. Not sure why it changed
It was only done like that because of COVID concerns last year. Some still had Dist Champ games at neutral sites.. But everything went back to normal this year. If you like to watch multiple area teams the one site is great, but it does cause some travel, for sure. Heck Hollister and Forsyth are 15 minutes away from each other yet drove nearly two hours to play each other at Mountain Grove last Night

Don’t forget your team mosooner reeds spring came all that way also. Didn’t hear a lot of grumbling about it other then the hollister girls fans upset because they thought we should postpone because of roads or something.

Districts have always been held in 1 location till last year covid junk
But the large class had a regular district tourney a sectional game and a quarter final game. It is NOT just like it used to be before covid. Unless they make this a rotation for districts P.B. and Jackson will travel to St.Louis every year and never get to host it. They're two votes for where it's held won't work for them.

It has nothing to do with roster size. It would still be based on enrollment. But the proposal is to do the girls districts and classes independently of the boys. They would base it on the teams that are playing girls basketball only.

What teams play girls basketball only? Just a few privates maybe.

Look at the girls districts in the boot heel for example. Mainly class 1

District 1- 2 teams
District 2- 2 teams
District 3 - 5 teams
District 4- 5 teams

Ive seen districts on the west side get stuck with 9 teams while that's going on over there (AND a neighboring district had 7 teams).

But they do have boys basketball too. I guess I don't understand what he means when he said the ones that are girls basketball only. Some boot heel teams have girls and boys and some have only a boys.

I think he means draw districts just for girls. Honestly having some teams in 2 team districts and some in 9 team districts doesn't seem like a wise move.

New playoff format coming. With price of gas being what it is and predicted to be for the foreseeable future, all districts will be two team districts. Two closest teams of same classification play each other. Repeat process for succeeding rounds. Bring the final four (or eight) together for a two or three day tournament.
