Seneca v PHC

We all know he won't be running very fast.

I guess SEMO football is decent, huh Rufus?
No, it's generally been horrible for the entirety of MSHSAA hosting a football playoff tournament. Outside of Valle, how many state titles are there? 1983 Chaffee? I'm far from going out on a limb here.
Hats off, though, to Park Hills on a great season and their 1st state title.

Hayti Multiple titles, St. Vincent, and Jackson with one each. Malden, Sikeston, and Cape Central with finals appearances. Valle, Hillsboro, and PHC playing this weekend.

It's still not a great area for ball, but you can't say the same things about it you could 15 years ago

Congrats to PJ Jones. A real football coach who eats, sleeps and /“&$&@ football. I hope Central people know how lucky they are to have him.
I can’t personally speak to his coaching prowess (although I have heard nothing but good things from folks who can).

What I can attest to, personally, is his ability to pick up Mohammed Abdul Qaadir over his head and spike him headfirst into the turf.

PJ a is a phenomenal football coach and so is Kory Schweiss. They transform young men into football players and men. I taught at PHC for 25 years and graduated from there. They have come a long way to where they are now. As you have said, we have had several great teams that ran into buzz-saws. This year, we were the buzz saw. Those NC teams that PJ played on were pretty salty too.
Head coaches get all the accolades (or blame), but there’s no success without a great staff.

Classic. I mean look at the number of schools in the Ozarks who don’t even have football. SEMO has had Jackson, Kennett, Cape, Valle, Park Hills, Farmington and R7 with success over the last 10 years. Ste. Gen had a long run before that. What has happened is STL private schools who ended their seasons. St. Mary’s, Ritter, Lutheran North, Burroughs etc.

Baseball, wrestling, xc-track, volleyball, softball and basketball are always well represented in the playoffs of their respective sports.

Jobe Bryant had 6 TD's today for PHC. Incredible player and fun to watch. I am certain it is not the record but was just curious what the record would be for most TD's in a championship game? He also threw for one. For the year, Jobe had 1,000+ yards receiving, 1000+ yards rushing, and 1000+ yards passing. That is insane. I heard that Missouri State University was at the game watching Jobe today (not sure if this is true or not). I would think that an offer would be forthcoming even though he will likely end up playing basketball and is a heck of a bball player. PHC QB Murphy (#5 for PHC) is a crazy good high school QB. #1 Harlow is a really good player. #5 for Seneca was a stud. Good game. Congrats to Park Hills Central and Kory Schweiss and PJ Jones and staff. They are fun to watch.

If my numbers and MSHSAA website is correct (big if on both), Jobe Bryant scored 40 points today (6 TD's and 2 - 2 pt conversions). Record for championships is 48 points by Worth county player Elijah Mullock in 2011. Jobe is now tied for second with 40. TD record in championship game is 7 by Mullock and Skylar Thompson of Fort Osage. IF those records include passing, receiving, and rushing in one game, then Jobe would be tied for lead with 7 as he had 4 receiving, 2 rushing, and 1 passing. Great game.

Video round-up of the game. Strangely, both teams shook hands before the game. Do we have a Deadspin writer hiding amongst us? ;)

This doesn’t show the whole sequence. #1 claps after the Seneca kids won’t shake hands. Then #70 replaces him as a captain. Not sure why but noticed it. You can see at about 2 minutes in the video.
