School Kids

Suit yourself youngster, your generation is proving this wrong, everyday. But you keep on believing what your told, that's cute.
Every generation thinks it was the best and the next one is taking the earth to hell in a hand basket. It's nonsense

Food for thought, virtually all the studies that have been done on this are skewed at best since the differentiation between mild discipline and abuse isnt ever really established. They treat a smack on the bottom the same as a slap/punch/kick/use of a foreign object, etc.

Corporal punishment, combined with follow up explanation as to why they were punished so they understand is as effective as anything. There's not an unbiased study out there that absolutely refutes that claim.

I imagine some you guys equating spanking with taking a 2x4 across the kids face.

And we should all take parenting advice from Cowhard.

EXACTLY

I'm not saying I believe in corporal punishment, but regarding punishment in general sometimes it's not about the individual student. It's about the rest of the students in the class who are trying to learn while Timmy is mocking the teacher. If we get Timmy to cut the shit right now, today's objectives will be achieved by everyone else.

Having said that, it used to frustrate the crap out of me when kids would not be in my classroom because they got in trouble on the bus or in the cafeteria. ISS doesn't work. I want them in my room doing cooperative learning/hands on lessons I designed.

You can't do that if you aren't there.

You should definitely take it from my parents. One engineer, one in law school, and one nurse. All graduated cum laude or higher from good colleges. Parents never laid a hand on us. They didn't need pain to make us respect them.

These are the people who don't spank their kids in America. And their kids are remaining in the upper middle class generally.

Na, spanking is an expression of anger. Studies have shown that spanking is not an effective form of punishment.
Studies have shown we are killing the planet. Why would you bring studies into the conversation. I was spanked at home and at school and look at what a fine young man I turned out to be.

And my parents blistered our hide when we did wrong. Two business executives, one student counselor, and me:D.

It is apparent that it worked.

Why would I want advice on raising an entitled whining little brat? Your career is only part of the equation.

Really because I believe I gave you the exact opposite real world situation.

Just went to my best friend/neighbors kids party yesterday. His mom was a secretary and his dad still does flooring for flooring solutions. He's a level three engineer at Boeing and his sister is an accountant. They spanked. Hell I remember him spanking us when we tried to start his tractor when he wasn't around. My mom spanked me when I got home.

Did you ever think these kids like coward remain in the upper middle class because the parents prop them up their entire life?

I'm curious how my lawyer dad and teacher mother propped me up being a nuclear engineer?

You could, you know, go look up data instead of giving an anecdotal story. My point is that spanking becomes less prevalent with income and education, and that the well off in America are still raising kids that are more likely to be well off.

Holy crap, so you're saying kids that have well off parents who live in the top school districts are more likely to succeed?! As for spanking, are they spying on the parents? How are they collecting this BS data?

Again, there is a difference in spanking and beating. Although I can't seem to get that point across. Let me guess time outs are too harsh? Don't want to make the kid lonely by setting him in the corner by himself!

No timeouts are the sort of alternative they recommend. It's not about not disciplining kids.

My point is somehow an awful lot of people find a way to raise successful, well adjusted kids without spanking them.

Are all kids created equal? Jesus man, I know great people who's kids turn out to be the worst.

The American academy of pediatrics believes it is based upon the available research.

And I'll state, as I did before and you conveniently ignored, virtually all studies done on corporal punishment view spanking in the same light as closed fist hitting, kicking, use of a foreign object, etc.

I'll agree with you 100% abuse will adversely affect a child's development, but spanking coupled with verbal redirection isn't going to mess a kid up.

I could cite some anecdotal evidence about the behavior of kids who I know don't get spanked...but I'll refrain.

Not true, some studies do differentiate, and that is the basis of the findings of the AAP.
