After what I’ve seen so far this season, here are my updated predictions.
1. Mountain Grove
2. Thayer(probably)
3. Willow Springs
4. Liberty
5. Ava
6-8. Houston, Salem, Cabool in no particular order.
Unless it’s postponed, Willow and Liberty play tomorrow so we’ll find out about that for sure.
I was running back and forth between the Blue & Gold and the Grove Tournament over the holidays and I was very impressed with Grove. Mallow has got that press going very well for them and using their athleticism and being aggressive and forcing turnovers and making other teams make mistakes.
I still have not seen Thayer this year, but from what I’ve seen from Willow, I just can’t put them above Thayer until proven otherwise.
Willow has all the talent, athleticism and physical tools at their disposal and the best PG and possibly or probably the best pure ball player in the conference in Jones, but what they lack is consistent effort. They’re still young in the sense that it’s 4 juniors and 1 senior starting and the first 2-3 off the bench are juniors and a soph. But they just haven’t shown that killer mentality that you need to win a conference or district title yet.
Maybe that will change with the conference slate firing up now. We shall see. They’re 9-3 but honestly they should be 11-1. Got outplayed by two lesser teams in Twin Rivers in the Van Buren tournament championship and Mammoth Spring in the Battle for the Border championship.
Bunker beat them like a drum in the MG tournament though.
And Grove barely beat Bunker the next day.
Liberty is going to be a mystery, I’ve been told that Chowning broke her hand? If so, any chance they had at finishing top 3 in the conference is(probably) gone.
Hit me with your assessment thus far, Tad
