Did anybody watch the future's game?

Holy smokes he was fun to watch. 101 with the fastball multiple times. Watched him strike a guy out on 100 heater with sinking action. Commentator said 98-100 was "easy gas".

I knew he was the next big thing, but can he come in and help the bullpen right now? I vote yes.

His stuff looked crazy good. Guess there's a reason he's the #2 pitching prospect in all of baseball. Announcers seemed to think he'd be a great candidate for the pen, especially given all of the issues.

He doesn't throw enough strikes and we just moved one of those types out of the closer spot.

how old is rosenthal? How old is Reyes?
The inability to throw strikes is a killer no matter how old you are. Not sure why you ask, but they need help in the bullpen now. I love the fact we have Reyes, but if can't control the strike zone he would a risk to use in high leverage spots and if you just want to bring him up for mop up duty I feel he would be better served as a starter at Memphis.

I'd rather have a 20 year old who is working on control than a 26 year old who has no control.

And I would rather have a 26 year old who is working on his control and has had success at this level than a 20 year old who has had no success at the pro level and limited success at Memphis. You make it sound like Rosie has no chance of getting back to his stud days.

Rosie has walked about 4 batters per nine innings over the course of his entire ML career. That's what Reyes has done in the minors that has you so worried. Rosie is valuable when he is going because he strikes a ton of guys out. Aroldis Chapman has a comparable walk rate, and he's a stud.

You know who else mows guys down? Reyes. We are talking about a starting pitcher aged 20 who has struck out 61 guys in 41 innings in AAA this year. He had great K rates at lower levels, too. We are talking about a pitcher whose minor league stats are comparable to Rosie except he is starting and pitching many more innings. Oh, and he's six years younger, too.

Rosie, at his peak, is a very good reliever for 75 innings. Reyes has the ability to grow into a Cy Young caliber pitcher for three times as many innings per year. There's no comparing their long term value. Rosie can almost certainly be a better Cardinal in 2016 if he turns it around, but Reyes's ceiling for 2018-2020 is much, much higher.

If the Cards offered Reyes for the closer of any ML team, you could count the number of teams who say no on one hand. It might even be zero when you account for the collective bargaining agreement making young talent more and more valuable.

Thanks for making my point. You know how I hate to type or research. Reyes stay down and continue to start. Trade Rosie and Adams for one of the Yankees 3 bullpen studs

You do realize they would hang up laughing at that right? They told the Cubs Schwarber had to be included for anything involving Miller

That might get you 2 months of Chapman though..maybe

You probably don't even want to know the potential price of Betances

I don't think a trade needs to be made. Keep Oh as the closer. Seigrest and Broxton (although he does make me nervous) can handle the high leverage stuff in the 8th. Bring up Reyes and give him the 7th, for now. And if he's lights out, let him be the setup guy come mid August or September. Rosie can keep mopping up until he shows signs that he can actually locate a pitch, any pitch. And not throw the straightest fastball on the planet to boot. Right now, he's a crappy closer (or ex closer), but he's a fine mop up dude.

FWIW...I think Oh is going to be really, really good as the closer in the second half. Just hope without Marp doing the Marping, there are actually games to close.
