Preseason number 1 to winless ?

I'm sure that'll be a barn burner!

OK, Veer, in what poll was this team in question ranked #1. I did see them ranked 2nd somewhere. And a good thing this game week 7 is not at their place because the way the wind blows there out of the north, in a burn burner it would set half the county under fire warnings. That is why there is a wind block on the home side in the bleachers.

i can't find the poll now. I may be wrong1!!!!!

It is a shame.

Maybe if misha had made class 1 the fill in, short-numbered class a long time of ago instead of kowtowing to the big schools by having class6 at half strength all these years we wouldn't have lost so many programs. Those C6 titles are the ones watered down! Class 5.5?

Many factors going into programs shrinking or folding. Mostly socioeconomic. Suburban schools didn't hurt small schools. The demise of rural Missouri did.

FYI: 1988 was the last year of common classes – Class 1A was 200 enrollment or less (now equivalent, sort of) to 150 now. There were 49 schools. Since then, Adrian and Mid-Buchanan are now C2 and only 6 others are still C1 (St. Vincent, Fayette, Chaffee, Cass Midway, Polo, and Wellington) under the new numbers. The rest are either 8-Man, in a cooperative or in 3 cases no longer have programs. None are above the 150 cutoff although Fayette sets there. Yes, with only 2 of 49 still there, it is what it is. Things change, Veer but these are good kids and I can respect them to compete where they are competing.

The demise? Wow, didn't know.

I do know that being in a class with 32 teams opposed to 64 would make you a bit more optimistic, maybe get that 10th senior to play? Not a problem in the suburbs, who aren't in demise, I understand. In the sticks, we got have some hope!

Class 1 should have been 48.
As it sits now somebody has a good chance of going from swmo to Memphis for a 8 v 9 game then maybe the next week going back for 8 v 1.

Bigger classes were coddled for too long no doubt. 4 districts of 9 makes zero sense for class .5 though. It's almost like somebody on the football advisory committee wanted it like this for some reason

So has anything about the MSHSAA playoffs ever been fair? Has it always been set up to make things easier for private Class 5&6 Class 1 everybody you can't beat?

I think you might be overthinking this a bit. If you asked most players how many teams were in their classification, there's not a chance more than a couple would know. Now, they'd know who dominates their area or maybe even their class. But you could have a million teams in a classification and you're still going to have a dominant team or two. It's damned near the definition of a champion, and kind of should be really. State titles shouldn't be spirit awards. If your athletes or prospective athletes are choosing to play a sport based upon their ability to win a championship then they're probably in it for all of the wrong reasons. That championship is merely a by product of doing all of the other stuff that is required. And having some pretty good players too, that always helps.

So, let's water down Class 1 so much that schools like Westran and Lincoln could maybe get that 10th senior but hell with a school like Adrian who has to now play in a district with Lamar who has 121 more kids (9 through 11) than Adrian. No one is being disrespectful to the kids on these teams, I just think a lot of people disagree with it.

The big argument was the enrollment disparity in Class 1 was way higher than the rest of the classes which I could argue is a skewed statistic as enrollments get smaller and even more skewed by the 2 or 3 Class 1 schools still playing 11 man below 100 kids (9 through 11). Take those schools out of the equation and Class 1 was much more balanced than it appeared.

Divide the 6 classes evenly and move on, I cannot think of a better way to do it. When MSHSAA is lobbied to overthink these things they make poor decisions.

Class 1 at 36 teams is so silly that even the sportswriters only are ranking them with a top 5.

Pierce City, Sarcoxie and Diamond have all had to be in Lamar's district, not fun!

How many are ranked in 8-man?

8 man has like 42 teams right?
Their districts actually look like class .5's should have.

NEMO hit the nail on the head as to why this process took the path it did. Did any person on that committee get a rough go in classification/district/bracket set up? At a glance I don't see any.

Media polls are not done by MSHSAA. By By-Law, there is an 8-man coach along with the 8 for 11 man.

correct. Maybe if they'd gotten another one they'd split 8 man in half .

yeah it sounds silly.

Just like 36 in class .5.
