Platte has a very good D line plus another gunslinger this one just a soph. K lost QB to what appeared to be a pretty bad knee injury will see if he dresses for second half.
Go run first and come straight after Marriott the second half will see how it unfolds.
Medical issue one of the Platte county players it appears. Game stopped. Heat index is unlike anything I ever remember this late in the summer.

As stated over and over and over again K lost their starting QB very early in this one. That changed the whole dynamic.
Regular season game 1 in incredible heat lost count how many kids went out with leg cramps and one PC player (prayers out) had what appeared to be heat stroke or a seizure. A total mess. Kearney showed tremendous resiliency late. Remember this one went OT last year. Highway 92 rivalry part 1. The round robin will be war again this year. PC opener vs. Smithville next.

K lost starting QB in 2015 in similar fashion in 2015. Lost to Liberty North. Same score.
Minnick has a thing over Fort O. Shall see if that repeats next week. Will have whole week to fix and change some things offensively. Them not quitting is what is most important about this one. Down 11 late many teams just pack it in.
I told folks around me the same tonight. Also remember NO Jones team won State unbeaten. From off the pace we come this year. Everything is there, folks. If that were not so you all know how blunt I can be about that.
This is different. Conditions tonight. QB out early. Gonna be honest I have a hard time putting much stock in anything I saw given what I've called HEAT RAGE all week. Never felt anything like that at any HSFB game and I've only been going since the 70s.
Marriott is big and slippery. In NFL terms think Big Ben Roethlisberger early years. Kid gets passing a bit more under control (sailed a lot of throws especially early) look out Class 5.
In all fairness they had an Anchor LB in Garrett that year. Didn't see anything like that tonight.
Pretty much have already covered it. UNLIKE last year Kearney will not sneak up on anyone. Pregame one could feel the anger on the PC side. Everyone (yours truly especially) did not expect this BUT losing your engineer (all state 3rd year QB) right out of the gate changed everything.
Easy to forget this was an OT thriller last year. Everyone gushes about Ambroson never forget Utz has been at this awhile, too. As I've said ad nauseam Minnick is good as they get but lacks the experience of HCs like these two. That Kearney is already staring both at eye level this quick after what he inherited is pretty amazing. I actually like this except for the injuries. Those can alter a season. Just ask the aforementioned Utz.
I actually posted then deleted my opinion of the refs. The late obvious pushoff that favored Kearney was another dandy. Minnick was all over them and was right at least four times. Was not on the PC side until the 4th that side was all over them, too. Friendly advice for you HSFB refs please do not try to make the game about YOU. Thanks...............

PC played a lot of Sophs, going to have some growing pains this year but Utz is the real deal and they’ll be fine
The refs threw waaayyyyyyy too many flags and made this game longer. They’ll get better too
hope the young man from PC and K QB are both okay
i think both teams need to improve OL play, D’s were way ahead of O’s
liked that K didn’t quit.

Watched this one (or most of it) on line, while watching a few others.
The heat took its toll on teams all around the metro, just brutal.

Extreme heat and humidity. My little term for it. Everyone had to deal with it and Platte County HC Utz even mentioned he's never seen a week like this all the years he has been involved in HSFB. I'd bet the THI hovered around 110 deep into last night's games state wide.
That heat, as described before, was unlike anything I've ever experienced in HSFB. The worst ever in any level of FB was the Iowa vs. K-State Labor Day weekend 2000 game at Arrowhead. I think it hit 109 that afternoon.
Always better to be the hunter than the hunted. Minnick and Kearney now get to learn the flip side of that this year. My hunch is they will be just fine but really need to get healthy. Part of the game, though. Give Logan a full week of practice etc. with who he has I bet we see a FAR better effort overall vs. Fort this Friday. Bet the house the Dogs come out with an anger and attitude.
Your team will still lose to them on week 3.
Show me a team that has six turnovers and still wins?
Once could argue that if they were as good as advertised they wouldn’t commit six turnovers and then use it as an excuse for why they lost. 🤷🏽♂️

I get that. Not an excuse. In fact. That is two games in a row now. Smithville won by 35. PC by 3.
It was weird in GV. Some storm cloud formed around 700-730 and dropped the temp from 100 into the upper 80s. A blessing for everyone.
