Paris go 8 man??

Just because you have 30 out don't mean you actually have 30 players. Had a team of 50 probably 25 were varsity. Mt View had 17 out in 98. The first game was against class 5 West Plains. They had 60 to 70 on their sidelines. Sounds great. Had 10 on a 8 man team. One was a down syndrome kid that had seizures before a game. Saying a blanket statement like you got 30 out you can play is crazy.

Im class 1 if you have 30 out you have at least 10 that can play.
Not everyone gonna go to state. Suck it up and play

If a school meets the enrollment then I don't have a problem. Some think going to 8 man is a cake walk. Then learn quickly it isn't. I don't think you got my previous post. I've been to the bare bones. I've also had times of being blessed with good numbers.

That's all fine but you can't tell me schools that have 30 kids out can't field a decent 11 man team.

Are there any 'bad' 8 man teams with that many out?

Slater the next one to go 8 man? With the I-70 and Lewis & Clark all but 8 man now makes a lot of sense for them.

What if a school that goes 8-man has to stay there, but their kids could attend neighboring schools with real football? Asking for a friend..

Why be decend when you could be good?

30 is borderline in my opinion. You have to have the right 30 and you potentially lose out of developing kids as you can’t really field a JV team.

In class 1 if you have 10 kids that can play you're doing really well.

Class 1 Pierce City may have averaged 30 kids out the past few years. When the Eagles have less their record usually suffers. The good years are a lot of fun though!

It's a shame that Lockwood, Greenfield, and Jasper will probably never play 11-man again. They pretty much suck at 8-man.

If 8-man is deemed unfitting and unbecoming, the only solution to eliminate it and make the state entirely 11-man will be school consolidation. This way all kids will have access to the opportunity of 11-man and and the better educational opportunities that a larger school can provide. In reality, this may need end up happening eventually, and I believe state politicians have discussed it some again. Dade County could probably be one district with a high school plant centrally located around the South Greenfield area. Lamar could easily take Liberal and GC and make all of Barton County the Brotherhood. Lamar could also grab Jasper's Barton County territory as well, while Carthage, Webb, and CJ take their geographical friendly sections of the R-5 district in JasCo. Even a dwindling Pierce City could have athletes that contribute strongly to Monett's Big 8 efforts. Or... if we accept that a smaller level of the game is necessary to keep the Friday Night Lights more prevalent across the rural dark landscape, we should encourage all of the schools to try having a program no matter the size. What makes Texas a football state is not just the large successful Permian-like programs, but also the 200+ that play 6-man. If we could get the Exeters, the Dadevilles, the Evertons, etc to play 6-man, we could drop the silly co-ops and have football more relevant, and perhaps even Missouri could be considered a football state. Until then, we really aren't even close to being one. Too much fall baseball or el futbol.

Ok, this could be fun. Would it count toward the neighboring school's enrollment?
No. If the privates in STL can do it, why not Golden City? Recruit the best of the rest that Carthage, Lamar and WC can't use. Lockwood, Jasper can chip in. Isn't there a loophole now where a kid can attend a school if a relative or a friend can provide scholastic support?

You just have to have a friend or relative that lives in the school district you want your kids to attend and sign over educational rights to that person.

Yeah that will work. Open enrollment. Iowa has it. They are even looking at open vouchers and will vote on that soon.

(Nebraska guy) Borrowed a buddies account to chime in here... Curious, if 8-man is "fake football" why do we have former athletes playing NAIA, D2, and FCS ball right now? The college coaches flow through here religiously.. They even comment on how the quality can be better (some not all) because the fact they have to play in space, be versatile, learn different positions etc... "Fake football" that's rich.

It's not fake football. Especially to those kids playing 8-man. In the 1930's and 40's Barry County in SWMO was full of 6-man HS teams.

Please, excuse my earlier posts where I implied that.

As someone who has worked closely with the schools that have dropped to 8-man over the last 3-5 years, I can tell you those teams are glad they made the move. It’s not just about fielding a competitive varsity team. It’s about being able to build an entire program with a JV team, not having to throw underclassmen into varsity action before they are ready. It’s hard to dig yourself out of a hole when the numbers are low at the 11-man level. It just is and at that point you aren’t doing the right thing for the kids.
Also, there were 4 teams in 2022 in 8-man football that had 30+ kids. All four (Albany, Archie, LeBlond and King City) had large senior classes (Albany and King City in particular with 12 and 17 seniors each). The average roster size in 8-man was 23 kids. You need 20-30 kids out consistently to be able to field a varsity and JV team at the 8-man level. That is barring a rash of injuries.

you Honestly think there are very many schools in 8 man that have anywhere near the talent to fully two platoon? Thats crazy 22 man roster 11 varsity 11 jv and that is stretching it... One to two injuries and bang no jv due to lack of qbs or rbs..
What does talent have to do with JV rosters?
If you have 20-25 in 8 man, play the damn JV games.

one of our opponents was lucky enough to have 3 qbs but 2 got injured in our game. They cant risk losing their only other kid that plays qb in a Monday night game when he has to be the man on that Friday. We only had 2 qbs and since my back up played on defense he could only play 2 quarters on Mondays we pressed a rb into service and ran more of a single wing attack in the 2nd half so our kids could play and at that I only had 4 rbs that could remember the plays on the whole roster. I should have said talent distribution. Some years your have loads of lineman and other year loads of smaller body types. We play a full schedule of jv games each year.. always looking to play but sometime one injury transforms a whole team in order to play the game Friday night with the available talent.

Well said. 2010 had 3 rbs total on a 30 man roster, played 2 games with 1 rb, had to completely change our scheme for two weeks. We played, wasnt pretty. Its always easy isnt it.

you might lose some JV games.

So, what the four smallest class 2 schools? They’ll probably drop down
