Counting down to No. 1 in the Missouri Pre-Season Top 20 list
of the top football prospects entering the 2010 season we reach No. 9.
Chaminade (St. Louis) pro-style quarterback
Christian Suntrup is prepared to lead one of the top Class 5 teams.
The No. 9 prospect in our rankings, a Rivals.com three-star
recruit, Suntrup stands 6-foot-3 inches tall and weighs 205-pounds. As a
sophomore, Suntrup passed for 1,362-yards, completing 62.5 of his passes.
Last season as a senior, Suntrup guided the Red Devils to the semifinal round of
the Class 5 playoffs. Teaming with No. 14 prospect, running back
Robert Standard Suntrup put up solid numbers again as a junior
passing for 1,338-yards and 11 touchdowns.
Suntrup fielded offers from Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and
Stanford, eventually choosing to attend Boston College. "After that spring game
on the 24th, everything felt so right about it," Suntrup commented to Pete
Scantlebury of the Rivals.com Football Recruiting staff. "In my mind, I didn't
tell my parents or anybody, but I knew that this was the place I wanted to be."
"It's just a great institution," Suntrup said. "A great
college. That set it off."
Chaminade head football coach Doug Taylor said Boston
College fans can expect a kid with good character and work ethic. On the
football field, they're getting a quarterback who already has a grasp of coach
Frank Spaziani's pro-style offense.
"Their offense is probably what made him most comfortable," Taylor said. "Their
offense is what we run. Seeing that in person made him really comfortable with
the situation."
At his news conference, Suntrup made it clear that he's done with recruiting and
focused on one thing and one thing only.
"I also want to make it clear that my focus is on the 2010 Chaminade football
season," Suntrup said. "I have been working, and will continue to work with my
teammates and coaches as we get closer and closer to the season."
