If I was the coach I'd tell him he wasn't part of the team anymore after that kind of nonsense. I mean get your bag when you can but don't act like youre still part of the team when you're not. Be better Sluka, be better.

Maybe they should trespass him off the UNLV property?

So long. As of now you are no longer welcomed in the football facilities is what I would tell him. Why is it that football players can play up to 3 games and still red shirt when other sports, if you play a minute you used up your year?

And then Coach ______, the next place he goes is going to trust this QB? That's like finding a girl that just dumped a guy. That's a hot mess...not a chance of touching that.

Overnight, the QB of the 3-0 Runnin' Rebels decided, along with his family and his agent, that he wants more NIL. So despite UNLV paying what they told him they would, he is going to redshirt and declare himself for the transfer portal. Mo' Money....

Pretty sure you're wrong about the 'more NIL' thing. Carl Reed saying he was negotiating for more doesn't mean it's true.

So when the AD says, "they met their commitments as agreed upon."

QB says, "I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled."

Who is lying?

That seems to be the question... He claims he did NOT receive everything promised. Either way I hate what this has become. NIL is not supposed to used to lure folks to come to your school for money. But, just like everyone knew, that is what exactly has happened. Why we dont just call it pay for play is beyond me.

The theory is that with the unexpectedly good start, the family and agent pushed for more money. That's why the QB mentions the "in the future" part in his statement.

Every time it does, it likely will be because of one of three scenarios.

Scenario 1

The player and the school’s collective agreed to X dollars over a time period. The collective actually paid Y dollars, with Y being a number lower than X.

Scenario 2

The player and the school’s collective agreed to X dollars over a time period. The collective paid X dollars as agreed upon, but the player had some success on the field and decided he now wants Z dollars. Z, of course, is a larger number than X.

Scenario 3

The player and the school’s collective agreed to X dollars over a time period. The collective paid X dollars as agreed upon, but the player had some success on the field and suddenly representatives of other schools are reaching out to the player (or his agent) and suggesting the player could make Q dollars if he redshirts this season and comes to their school next year. Q, of course, is a larger number than X.

It's very simple. If it is true that UNLV didn't live up to their end of the deal, there is absolutely nothing wrong with his decision. You can't lie to kids to get them on campus without consequence anymore.

If he left because he's being courted by another school, it's scumbag behavior.

You know somebody is in the ear and has a new deal in place. Sorry, but its just the way of the ncaa now. Land of the hired guns.

Because the schools and the NCAA do not want employees or to be responsible for compensating athletes directly.

The obvious way to do this is to have the athletes sign a contract just like the coach signs a contract and negotiate whatever stipulations both parties feel is necessary into the contract. Until then it's the wild west and every athlete is essentially operating in what very well could be the best example of an actual free market that exists in American society right now.

Which some people claim to love when it suits them.

Seems more like a scenario 2 thing. I get leaving by rule players can redshirt if played in or up to 4 games in the NCAA football season. My confusion to this whole thing is why even play if you're so concerned about the all mighty dollar. So I feel it's scenario 2 for that reason. If it is scenario 1 it is clearly a story of common practice across all college football. Lie to kids, tell them what they want, they play, you never have to hold your end because admin at the college level won't be held liable for loose lips of another.

5th year senior with NO SHOT at the NFL...he gonn' get dat money NOW...
Somewhere there's a truth. Sad reality for UNLV, it could be this simple. He gets his $3K from the universities collective. An assistant, with no negotiating power, tells him he can get $100K in NIL money. It doesn't pan out for whatever reason. Now you've got a big ole mess. Seems to me there's enough money in Vegas to get this kid paid the $100K. He's certainly marketable through a few weeks.

BINGO! You would think Boosters would come up with that little bit of money. Leads me to believe that somebody is in his ear to make more money elsewhere! Why not, it is not that he is NFL material.

Carl Reed spends 25% of his many Twitter posts hyping up UNLV’s OC as the second coming of Vince Lombardi… of course he’s going to be carrying the water for those guys

Dayum! That's not even FCS money, bro...no wonder.

“Former UNLV QB Matthew Sluka’s NIL representation, Marcus Cromartie of Equity Sports, told ESPN that Sluka was verbally promised a minimum of $100,000 from a UNLV assistant coach for transferring there,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Wednesday. “None of that money was paid, per Cormartie.”

Not saying it's right by any means, but believing a verbal agreement from an assistant coach seems like a bad idea in general

This is huge because everyone knows unlv is a major threat to win the natty. Bahahahahaha

Hijacks the season. Bahahahahaha drama much?

Have followed UNLV since Odom got there. Haven't seen much of them this yr, but the dudes stat line is under 50% completion % each game. Hard to imagine there is that many boosters paying kids $100k to be an average passer. Obv he has some good rushing yards, but dang. What a mess, and will be the new normal.
