The biggest change with the start of the 2010 Mid-Mo
Conference season will be the absence of the Tipton Cardinals who have departed
and will join the Kaysinger Conference. Since the inception of the league
the Cardinals have been a dominant league force.
The new landscape in the league opens the door for new
challengers and a competitive season appears on the horizon.
Mid-Mo Pre-Season Conference Notes:
1. SOUTH CALLAWAY--
The 2010 season looks to be an
exciting one for the South Callaway Bulldogs. Building off the success
from the 2009 season and the schools second consecutive playoff trip, the
Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways with a successful campaign.
Six offensive and six defensive starters return
for the Bulldogs including senior running back Bryan Lechner(6-2
160) and senior WR/DB
Will Brandt(6-2 175).
&"The Bulldogs look to continue their
success in 2010. Only 5 seniors graduated from last years team so many
starters are returning from last years playoff team", commented head
coach Tim Rulo. "With a new schedule
in 2010 anything is possible as the Bulldogs hope to be successful both
in conference and district play and beyond. No matter what the Bulldogs
will continue their tradition of playing hard on Friday nights and being
quality young men both on and off the field!"
2.
SOUTHERN BOONE-- In 2009 new head coach Roger VanDeZande took over the Eagle football program ending a
19-game streak of futility entering finishing with a 5-5 mark. This season
the Eagles hope to fly even further competing for the league title.
VanDeZande reports "tremendous growth in numbers", he is
expecting 65-70 players in the program. "With great off-season strength
and speed progress which was much improved over 2009 we will improve this year."
Senior quarterback Cole Finley(5-10 170)
returns along with junior RB/LB Tyler Grethen(5-9 195), and
senior FB/LB Dyllon Harper(5-7 220) all-league performers a
season ago.
3. NORTH CALLAWAY--
5-5 a season ago, veteran Mike Emmons says "We return most skill positions, but
graduated the entire offensive line. Players must learn quickly to adapt
from the jv level to varsity in order for us to be successful."
All-Conference senior quarterback Tylar Walker(6-0 180) returns
to lead the offense along with four returning starters. Senior Taylor West(5-9 155) returns at wide receiver along with Paul Risher at
running back.
On defense Zac Kee(6-0
180) returns on defense after earning all-league honors. The Thunderbirds return
four starters in their 5-3 scheme.
4. HALLSVILLE--
0-10 a season ago
the Indians hope to compete in 2010. Junior Turner Jensen
returns as an all-conference defensive end. Senior running back Lance
Peoples(6-0 195) returns along with junior quarterback Miles Drummond(6-0 185).
