If the football advisory committee/mshsaa/schools don’t put a cap on the size of class 1 schools more will go 8-man. Now, class 1 is the smallest 64 - then class 2,3,4,5 are divided up then the top 32 are class 6. Class 1 is the only one that has 64 teams.

Every time a class 1 school goes to 8-man the next smallest school class 2 team drops down. Higginsville was almost class 1 this year.

So, the disparity between the top and bottom increases. Leading to more of the bottom teams going to 8-man.

I don’t know what the cap should be. Maybe 150 or 180 or 200 - but I think mshsaa et al, should consider it.

They've already cleared out the private schools from class 1. How easy does a Class 1 state title need to be before we think it's fair?

Just start at class 6 with 64 and work down. Quit babying the big schools

Why not allow any school to be 8 man if they don't have the numbers or infrastructure to support an 11 man program? In Class 1 you see schools competing against opponents twice some two and half times their enrollment. If 8 man is a viable option for safety and so on then let Pleasant Hope and other schools who are over the 150 cap compete in football on Friday nights and Playoffs. Or for schools over 150 use the Success Formula if a school is deemed to be misusing the format.

Keep it going. Webb almost back down to class 4. With the kc schools closing i think its around 3 schools left to drop back down.

It should be the other way around. Classes 2 through 6 at full strength and fill in with class 1.

The present system is killing off small school football. Pierce City has had holes in their schedule, or 8-man games forced on them at the last minute more in the last five years than the previous 50.

Get rid of the 150 cap and make 8-man the catch all. Have teams declare by June 30 their desire to play 8-man and contract down to 5 classes. Set the number of 11-man teams static at 288 teams

64 teams in Classes 2-5
32 teams in Class 1

The smallest 63 (catch all) teams that apply to play 8 man get to do so and the remaining teams get bumped up into 11-man

I don't think forcing schools to play 8 man or 11 man would be a good idea. You would literally have schools switch every year. The style of play just isn't the same. not to mention the scheduling nightmare the would create.

Go Back to 5 classes and increase 8-man pop cap to 175 and split into 2 classes. Make class 1 the catch all class. Probably be around 50 teams in class 1 in the next 2 years.

I like it. Of course, it makes sense so MSHSAA would never adapt something like this. Take care of the big schools while football dies away in smaller schools.

Clean house.

Or a Blair Oaks, with no Helias nearby! Several Helias kids live in the Blair Oaks district.
Going to be interesting when each private school finds their 'niche' class so they can achieve success without running into other private schools.

Bet something gets done then.

sure in the upper classes. Once they get settled into 2 ,3 and 4 it's going to change.
Since the inception of the playoff system in Missouri, here are the state championships won by either public or private schools, per classification. In the event of a tie, I counted both teams as state champions.
Class 1: Public 41, Private 12
Class 2: Public 35, Private 22
Class 3: Public 37, Private 17
Class 4: Public 50, Private 6
Class 5: Public 34, Private 6
Class 6: Public 11, Private 9

Facts sometimes suck, but they do come in handy when calling out bullshit.

Private schools make up about what..3% of schools that compete in football?

And you just made my point for me about class 3 and 4.

Thanks.

There have been more private schools win state titles in Classes 2 and 3 than Class 1, and it's not close. Yeah, I proved a point alright. That you are just whining and bitching, facts be damned. The top coaches and programs get it done. Everybody else makes excuses. Take solace in the fact that you are not alone, merely one of many.

If you look at percentage 2 and 3 have had their fair share of Private School winners... 4 and 5 is a little different story. Hopefully, something will eventually be done about it.

I think in the last 8 years private schools were in class 6 title games all but once.

Class 5 has been affected by the multiplier but it's only a matter of time before a school wins some in class 4 and gets bumped up.

The success factor will cause the private schools to be spread out more IMO.

Hasn't Valle won 14 Class 1 State Titles? What other Private schools have won Class 1?
