Montgomery Co 102, Wellsville 94... .. .

I get what you are saying, but in the long run it isn't going to make any difference. The road most likely ends at Ritter for the team that gets that far.

As for all this great defense being played......if the game was being called the way it should be called the defense wouldn't look so great. I see a lot of good athletes with average basketball skills being allowed to take advantage of a loosely called game. The words "let em play" are code for "let em mug".

,
Congrats to the new EMO conference champs, Montgomery County WildCats...

It's interesting to me that coaches would be this vocal on this board, but to each their own.

I'm not the one being critical of the Montgomery County coach. I am defending him, the job he has done, and his program. I am friends with many of the staff and fans and I'm thrilled about their success this year.

Perhaps your comment wasn't meant for me, but since you quoted me I assumed it was.

I was hoping to make that game but had a change of plans. Not as high scoring as they have been. It's been a few years since we played Christian High, so I'm not for sure what they are like these days.

They are a good team but MOCO just kept grinding away at them. Christian played like they knew a run was coming, and it did.

And Montgomery County still over here in the corner winning games. One of the last 8 in the state still standing.

Listened to o the game while I was driving back from Quincy this evening. The 90-70 final score is a bit misleading about how close the game was. Monroe City was up 3 at the half and 1 after 3 quarters. Appears Montgomery County eventually wore them down.

Who do they play Saturday?

I remember 1972 when we won state. The Regional (now District) at Troy had 4 teams in the top 10. St. Dominic, Duchesne, Clopton, and Montgomery. We won that Regional and then turned around to beat two more top 10 teams (Palmyra and Hermann). After that they won the final 4 over yet another top rated team (Richland).

It's supposed to be tough and it will be again of they win. Could be a fun time.

I hope it will be a good game. What a run for the Montgomery County Wildcats.

What a season. Even with no defense, the elite 8 isn't bad. MOCO beat some very good teams and almost went to the final four.

Congrats for a fine season. Your post in the St. Louis prep sports forum surely doesn't represent your community.

I would be happy to debate the issue of good defense. When you have the good fortune to foul up and down the court, but only get about half of them called, you are always going to look better than you should.

Good refs wouldn't take the best players out of the game with 50/50 calls, just saying.

Transportation has great quickness and created a lot of problems for Montgomery, but they got away with a LOT of body contact....reaching, bumping, etc. in transition. There were two plays in the paint that Parrish was hammered with no calls. The last foul on Parrish was a pretty bad call. He caught a pass as he landed and turned there was contact before he even had a step...no call there. Then after he dribbles and both players are still moving he is called for a charge. Clearly a blocking foul, but if the first contact didn't merit a call the 2nd one sure didn't.

I suppose some people will claim that is good defense, but I'm not one of them. Wasn't one of the better officiated games I have seen this year. One of the officials had the on site Admin and two security guards go over to a T&L fan late in the game.

Best way to sum it up was his ears were better than his eyes.

I

I was not there but would like to comment on two things. I am not saying either call was correct or not as I didn't see them. I also have no dog in this fight as I don't follow either team and don't know the officials.

#1 A player with the ball gets no time and distance. He does not have to be given a step.
#2 Both players can be moving and a charge can be called. If the defense has established legal guarding position he is allowed to move laterally or obliquely to maintain it. It is on the offense to get head and shoulders past.

Jeez. Sour grapes. Northwest was clearly the better team. There were 4-5 calls that were questionable that went Montgomery's way as well. That's basketball. I figured you'd been around long enough to get that.

I have been around long enough and seen a lot of basketball. Good refs will almost always alter 50/50 calls. Good refs also know the kids that make the team click. Those were 3 calls that took Montgomery out of the game. As long as Northwest being the best team, I disagree. Parrish sit on the bench for 4 minutes in the forth due to the refs and Montgomery was still in the game when that horrible 5th call came.

I just watched that again, you think the attempted dunk wasn't a charge? The baseline drive, Northwest wasn't even squared up and lowered his shoulder. And after those two you think that was a charge on Parrish? Its over now, good luck Northwest in the championship.

The block call on the dunk is a perfect example of why high school needs the semi circle in the lane for charges that college and nba has. It makes that call alot easier for officials.

After the initial 4 minutes, northwest outscored Montgomery by 22 points. Im pretty sure the best team won. Nothwest had to play extended minutes without Warren, Williams, and Watkins as they were all in foul trouble as well.

I actually was very impressed with Montgomery. I thought they shot it well and handled Northwest's pressure without much trouble. In saying that, they got wore down in the 3rd quarter. Alot of shots were coming up short. They went on the 6-0 run at the end of the 3rd to make it close. Northwest had already extended it to 10 by that time. If they dont take 2 TERRIBLE shots at the end of the quarter, its not that close.

I understand your allegiance to Montgomery. And they had a great season. Just leave it at that. No need to make excuses.

Now your trying to use facts to make your point. I wasn't at the game, but the video posted showing the fouls don't give you the same look the official had, those are tough calls. The fifth foul on Parish looked like he caught the ball put his head down turned and ran over Williams. If you go to the finial four in Columbia MSHAA has an announcement about getting off the couch and becoming a Missouri official, I think swoopo and WCS Coach should get off the couch.

My comments aren't "sour grapes" at all. I gave an honest opinion of what I thought. It was not one of the better officiated games I have seen and I listed several reasons.
Like you said.....you weren't there.
