Home of the Cubs!!
I had a feeling the the Cubs were going to be good this year, but I was thinking hey going to be class 4 in the same district as Webb so the best I was hoping for was we could get to the district title game and then see if we could put up a good fight against Webb, you know Cubs Versus Cards LOL.
But then the good news we got at least a one year reprieve and got bumped down to class 3. So far the boys have played pretty well over the season. They had really good game against Lamar along with two very heartbreaking and close loses to MV and cAssville. However these last couple of games they have played some good ball. Hopefully they can go down to Seneca and play up to their full potential.

Seneca was a dark horse coming in to this season they needed to replace their QB who the last three years had steadily guided them. First game out they had an early season lose against Catholic and an then a huge come from behind win against Reeds, but the last two games they have put together two very impressive wins, one at home against cAssville and the other on the road at Lamar which is a tuff out.

This game should be very good. and it has Big 8 West implications along with District standings. Monett needs to win to try and force a three way tie and try and stay in contention for a top seed. A Seneca win could seal the deal for them in the conference race and get them a high seed for Districts.

It should be a good game. Haven’t checked on injuries but we should be good and at full strength. I plan on being there early and there should be a huge crowd especially with it being homecoming.

Even if Lamar is not in the running we could still see a three way tie in the west. Correct?

If Monett beats Seneca, then Monett, Seneca and cAssville will all have one loss in the Conference. If Seneca wins then they are pretty much in the drivers seat as I don't see anybody else that might be able to push them, besides maybe the hard luck Newt.

cAssville still has to Play Lamar and that will be a battle. So If Lamar beats cAssville that knocks them out even if Monett beats Seneca.

Been awhile since the conference race was this exciting.

Seneca has also played injured Cassville and a deflated Lamar team. They are a good team but still need to prove they can beat a full force team. This weeks is that test.

Deflated might be a bit of an exaggeration. Seneca is a strong team and aside from gashing us, one time, up the middle and an 30 yard, official assisted drive, it was quite close and could have easily swung the other way.

But, we all know about "ifs" and "buts", don't we....

Sensitive subject I guess, Lamar is still a good team I mean deflated as in morale. They are not playing with the same intensity and "swagger" as seen in prior year.

Not sure about "deflated"? This Lamar team just isn't as good of a team as they are used to having. I'm glad for the Cubbies and the Indians for their wins over Lamar, but lets not kid ourselves into thinking that they beat one of the juggernaut Lamar teams of the past decade. Lamar is still a solid team, but not even close to some of their great championship level teams. They will still win their district and probably make a decent run. BTW I will take the CUBS friday night, 34-14!

Maybe Nigel just stated the facts as they really are, and then backed down when he realized he had hurt some feelings in the " Brotherhood".

Nah not backing down just clarifying what I meant by deflated. Shoot on the other side of the Big 8 they would be undefeated.

No feelings hurt, here. Comparing them to some of the teams of the past would also require comparing their competition. Let's not sell the Monett and Seneca teams short, here. This side of the Big 8 is returning to the state that it once was with some very good teams. No, the Lamar team of this year might not have the quantity of threats we might have had in the past, but they are a young team with plenty of threats. Each team is different. Each year's competition is different. How seasons develop differs, as well. Undefeated seasons are the exception not the rule but people tend to get spoiled. Just as Monett was only a couple of plays away from wins as opposed to losses, the same can be said for Lamar. Nobody likes the losses, but it sure is good to see the competitive games that we grew to know and love from our past experiences.

One thing I have learned is to never kick somebody while they are down or look to be down, because eventually they will get back up. We just went thru a couple of lean years and now we are better. Lamar while maybe not as dominate as in the past can still punch and deliver a knock out blow, I would not sleep on the Tigers.

You might be right. The East side is pretty weak.

We were told the same thing last year, but when you look at it almost every way, the East was better. Not saying thats the case now at all... just saying we heard much of the same last year and it just was not true.

Shot Sooner you might be right about last year. The West cross over game record was 7-14 against the East teams.

The East was better last year than it is this year, but that doesn't say anything about the level of play. It still wasn't very good when compared to where Big 8 teams have been in the past. If you had a long term view of the conference, you would see it too. Right now, the Big 8 is guaranteed a winner in Class 3, District 6. doesn't necessarily mean that team is good.
