As much as I’d like to see some offensive upgrade at the deadline, it’s becoming quite clear they’re gonna need pitching help. Probably a starter and an arm in the pen, ideally a lefty. Ponce, Wacha, and Waino all seem to be scary options. If you can get a lefty for the pen, I think the move would be to put CMart back in rotation. Mikolas/Flaherty/Hudson/CMart/Waino (hopefully a starter at deadline to replace). That leaves Gant, Gallegos, Miller, new lefty, Brebbia, and Waino/Wacha/Ponce/Gomber/Webb/Reyes for a couple spots.

Cards are 14th in the NL in walk rate. Waino’s ERA is over 7 on the road. Wacha’s is 5.59 overall. Ponce isn’t good. Reyes is a flop.
But we were in first place on August 1. So Mo can brag about that all winter.

Seems like the last few years they go on a mini-run around the trade deadline and the front office people think, “Let’s stand pat.” We all know where that HASN’T gotten them.

They dumped Mejia, Mayers cleared waivers and is back to Memphis and they up brought #10 prospect Fernandez for pen help. They're burning through relievers like wildfire!

I don’t know the answer, but I know CMart isn’t it at closer.

Reyes had another set back. After throwing his pectoral muscle is still an issue so he's headed back to St.Louis for evaluation. :(
