Kearney vs Smithville

You love to make vague generalizations and talk out of both sides of your mouth ...then claim "you nailed it" you still picked Kearney by double digits. I hate to point this out being as you are suddenly a football god and "former college all American"....lmfao

Not vague at all! If you're bored go back.
The Returning Senior comment is about my post. I wrote that. JN was rubbing it in and it's not even close to a prediction that Kearney might lose.
You are correct, he picked K by double digits, then he used my comment to lie about his pick after Kearney lost. Had Kearney won, this thread would be about Returning talent. JN is the funniest troll on Mosports. Bahahaha.

I've seen both. Kearney is better IMO. Smithvile CAN win, will take Kearney to make a few mistakes.
Respect your opinion, waggle, so who wins the rematch one week from Friday and why?

If I would pick again, I would say Kearney by 10 again. I think they play 10 times, kearney wins 7 of them. I was commenting on the folks thinking it would be a blowout. I never thought it would be a blowout. However, Can Smithville put together another 80 yard drive with two fourth down conversions and a couple of long 3rd down conversions? Nah. Can they get 2 fifteen yard penalties and a five yard penalty on a final drive hat starts at the 38? Nah. That's why Kearney wins the rematch. Bahahah Troll on that.

I never blame a loss on officiating. It's part of the game.

Didn't see this game, sounds like it was a good one. I really thought Kearney was better, shows what I "know". Short of predicting a winner, I hope it is another good one. The huge thing in Smithville's favor now is they KNOW they can beat Kearney and will go into it expecting to win, the Dogs will go in wanting to bounce back. I'm going to have to choose between Staley v NKC and this rematch. Not an easy choice. I hope it's another close one.

WAIT A MINUTE. The Staley/NKC game will (if it happens) will be the 9th, I won't have to choose.

Unless PH South finds some kind of magic that game at Staley will 100 percent happen. The Kearney-Smithville game was a strange one no doubt. Kearney, in my view, just needs to play with more URGENCY. 9 times out of 10 the playoffs and game implications takes care of that. As of today feel very good about the Dogs chances especially on the road.........for some weird reason I like this team's chances better away from home unless they are playing someone like Staley. :)

You are assuming Staley will be there. I do too, but considering Staley is capable of laying an egg, it's not 100%. Not that Liberty isn't a really good football team. But the bye week comes just in time. Oak Park beat Raytown who beat NKC, who beat Oak Park. Oak Park had Fort beat going in for the sealing score and some bad luck hit them at the wrong time 1st and goal. Fort scored on a ridiculus bomb and a KOR, otherwise they shut down Fort. Oak Park beat Raytown from start to finish, fumbling on the 1 going in, should've been 21 to 7. Oak Park took a knee at the goal line at the end of the game avoiding a disaster and or good sportsmanship, you pick. Oak Park should be 6-3. The old adage of getting over years of losing to finally break through definitely was at work for the Oak Park program. I'm not forgetting they were pounded by the thoroughbreds at NKC and beat down by William Chrisman and Platte. Hopefully they have learned to stop throwing pick 6s, fumbling, and making stupid mistakes like long KORs. At least with that thought it makes the argument it's plausible that a healthy Oak Park can beat St. Joe and at least compete with Staley.

Did I say it was the officials fault? No, the penalties were correct. I don't think the fortunate penalties (from the SV point of view) will occur again. Kearney blew the game more than SV won it. That's why the outcome will be different in two weeks.

Usually you get what you deserve. Kearney may not have been into it, and Smithville was. IDK. Breaks happen.

If Oak Park beat Staley we would all be in trouble because the Earth would be knocked off its axis.........

Smithville definitely played with more energy excepting the 7-0 start and the final K TD drive. Again if the Dogs play offensively with that kind of energy all game good luck Warriors...........

I think the two teams are pretty evenly matched. I can't see a real advantage by either squad other than carpe diem on the night of the game.
I would argue that SV has good TE, DE and Kearney has veteran offensive line. Both teams have pretty good HS receivers. Both teams have good RBs. Kearney has a good Mike LBer, so does SV. SV relies more on the short passing game and Kearney likes the homer.

Oh, they got what they deserved. And really, if they don't show a little more on offense, maybe they lose the next one too? I'm assuming they hit some of those passes they missed by a couple inches, or they shorten them up and take what they can get. Smithville may be a better team than even they think they are.

I'm haven't seen the statistics. SV seemed like they outgained Kearney in total offense, and held the run game in check. Honestly, I don't know.
Both teams benefit from playing some not so good teams, so to be in a dog fight must be new. That's more of the state of football in the small conference than anything else. Without Platte, Kearney and newcomer SV I'd rather take a nap.
Most of the games are like watching 43ft shot put win the county triad track meet.

Another huge key for K's offense in the rematch is working to get Connery out in space. That was a big key to that final TD drive. You are correct Smithville outgained Kearney and basically controlled the game between the two TDs. Then there was that kinda fluky last drive............

Where Smithville has gotten into trouble is parlaying regular season success to the playoffs. Many times this decade they've seeded well only to lose primarily to PC and KTown. This team reminds me of the Warriors 2011 squad (which it pays to remember was the one that dictated Savannah's QB change to McFadden that vaulted them to the semis and a very near miss vs. Webb) but does have a couple more playmakers both sides of the ball. Just ten days til this unfolds............

This is not a criticism but nonetheless a observation. Both teams seem to be competing well for best dressed contest. It looks antiseptic, void of blood snot and sounds like a pillow fight. Settle the issue by playing harder and blocking better and tackling with passion. As a fan, I go to games too see somebody do something that makes me jump to my feet. I don't think that's unusual. Both these teams wear their cool accessories instead of knocking the doo doo out each other. I hope the next game decides who actually is the physically superior team. Not some fluke late hit on a knee call. Somebody please hit somebody. It's not fun or cute. How about lining up and trucking the defender, break off a broken tackle run. Turn into a monster for 48 minutes. Tear the will out of them and make them not want to tackle. How about that? Leave your tight bandanas, stockings and matching numbered hoodies at home and bring the funk. If I wanted to see powder puff game's I show up for homecoming. Play like it might be the last opportunity to make it happen and don't hold back. School districts pay big bucks to watch you run around the artificial turf and do something special, not to win a fashion contest.

I can't find any stats from Friday night, how many yards did Connery go for?
Rushing 13 carries for 39 yards (1 TD).
Receiving 6 catches for 78 yards (1 TD).

He gained even less on the ground than in the Staley game (58). Smithville, like Kearney, has good playmakers on offense but is D first thus the low score as I predicted. I hate to keep harping on it but that Dogs O Line is losing or a stalemate at the LOS vs. the better opponents on the 2018 slate thus far.

Some of what you are saying is because this was a regular season game and both entered all but knowing they'd rematch one way or another in the District playoffs. Having everything on the line will, without a doubt, differentiate these two thus I predict whomever wins will do so by a much wider margin than 3.

I am making that assumption. I would not define what happened last Friday as Staley "laying an egg". They missed a couple of opportunities to score early and didn't. It went South from there. It was more about Liberty and the urgency in which they played with. Their D was aggressive and really fast. They flew to the ball and they hit hard! Yes, Staley starting qb was out, not sure if that would have made a huge difference. The Gray kid for Liberty was everywhere and played both ways, he was the star of the night, IMO. Staley had a player (major D player) kicked out after a late hit and that too seemed to have an impact. Liberty's offensive play calling was really good too. I know OP had some nice games and "could" be 6-3, but they aren't, for a reason, they aren't very good at football. Staley should, and likely will, control the game and advance to play NKC. If they don't, they don't, things happen and upsets happen often. OP over Staley would be one for the ages.

Good point's. Liberty really is a good football team. They should've beat LSW. Wow, interesting.

TIme of possession was key to this game. Connery only got 13 carries. K only had the ball 18:40 to Smithville's 28:45. K's passing game, and all the near misses ( Ah-mu was 12 of 23) cost them with the loss in downs. Having 2nd down and 10s will not work. They need to cut down the home run 30 yard bomb tries in the second game. They will need to ground and pound and stay with it--if they just get to 50/50 possession, Smithville will not score more than 10 points at best.

Back again to my main point as this 2018 season has evolved: The O Line has to win at the LOS or it won't happen. Why they try all those sideline routes is beyond me. Any decent pass D will lock down on that. Getting Connery out in space and letting him dictate the offensive pace of the game is what will win the rematch NOT sticking to the regular season formula that looks great vs. overmatched teams but leaves their top drawer D out on the field way too much vs. the better ones.

Liberty is the wild card nobody wants to face in Class 6 District 4. If they beat Park Hill again they would likely face LS North, the top seed who they also already beat. What an unreal batch of teams we have in Clay/Platte county this year regardless of class!

North Kansas City has the Simone winner. What a stud. Linebacker and running back. He's Micheal Keenan, so fast he doesn't need to make a move. You're not going to stop him, you have outscore them.

On video...NKC looked freakish off the line. Amazing. The 4Q last week was spellbinding.

Yeah, they don't run more and better, effectively run play action on short passes...and they are done.

Those of us who, back in the summer, were placing Staley and Fort automatically in the C5 quarterfinal didn't see any of this coming. Having said that I still favor that matchup just not nearly as comfortably as August.

Does anyone know how long it has been since NKC has even had a winning season? Maxpreps history to 2004 shows zero (none) nada winning seasons since then.
Just a winning season would have been remarkable.
