I’ll get everyone’s thoughts on this but I think it will be a lopsided victory for the bulldogs. I don’t think Smithville has the players to hang with the big boys. Kearney by 2 tds at least. Connery may go for 300 against them.
9 out of 10 years would agree. I still think this is a special edition of Smithville football the shocking loss to PC notwithstanding. The more I look into this one the more I am looking at how the Warriors will handle this Kearney defense, however. That will be a very tall order...........Of the two teams, Kearney seems to be playing better football. Smithville is small, about an enrollment of 850 kids. This alone makes them a big under dog. Historically, Kearney has championship in nearly all sports, and Smithville has good wrestling. If your betting money it's not a tough call.
They lost to Platte who Kearney spanked hard.9 out of 10 years would agree. I still think this is a special edition of Smithville football the shocking loss to PC notwithstanding. The games I've attended (even at Staley) the pass has been wide open all over the place. If only they could find 2-3 reliable receivers this team would never be stopped. Fingers crossed we see some plays they simply haven't shown up to now............plus I go back to that O Line. Gotta play with high energy/attitude right out of the gate this week! You hit the nail on the head Top. Smithville will be lucky to score two tds against the steel
curtain, I mean Kearney defense.
Defensively, I fully expect Smithville to put 9 in the box and single up the receivers. Kearney can and will score 3 or more tds.
I know I come across sometimes as a perfectionist BUT it is a compliment actually to this squad because I am looking at what needs to happen come November all the way to Columbia for them to finish the deal and get title #5.They lost to Platte who Kearney spanked hard.
I think the two fake punts that led to scoring TDs against PC made it appear that SV offense did the damage. PCs punt return alignment was irresistibly dumb.
Trickery is fine, but PC turned it over and still SV didn't cash in. When you have to run trick plays to score, you may as well say, I can't beat you straight up.
PC took SV to the woodshed in the passing game, even with the interceptions. I think Smithville will do well, but in the end, Kearney has been there, SV hasn't.
Kearney does have some concerns in there perimeter game defensively. The Belton offense kind of worked them over. Take away the terrible special teams of Belton the score is a bit closer. Belton defense is really bad, so they had no prayer.
Kearney is impressive in that they score. They finish drives. They play well in three phases. They don't awe you with brute force, they are well coached.

At times the offense puts too much on Connery. The kid is amazing but needs more help on occasion..........Kearney can be shaky. Big thing for Smithville is all the senior talent that returned from last year.
Hope you are right but like this Smithville team. Planning to walk and arrive at this one early!Kearney rolls!
I agree. I have a feeling kearney has a few tricks up their sleeve on offense this week.Kearney rolls!

Is it going to take trick plays? Most teams that are going to roll a team don't show trick plays.I agree. I have a feeling kearney has a few tricks up their sleeve on offense this week.

I've seen both. Kearney is better IMO. Smithvile CAN win, will take Kearney to make a few mistakes.Lot of haughty talk up in here...watch out for the vanity before the fall.. See Webb City 2015..

This is one of those games where the team that scores first may well win. Neither is really, from my observations, a comeback type team like PC. Watch both lines of scrimmage early that will tell a lot.Kearney by 10. But Smithville has their best shot in 10 years (and probably the next ten years) of beating Kearney.
They definitely can win. Like all the other Highway 92 schools Smithville has to get over the "Kearney hump". The Dogs have owned all three the past decade plus.I've seen both. Kearney is better IMO. Smithvile CAN win, will take Kearney to make a few mistakes.

Idk...saw the 6th grade (I think, could've been 5th) version of the Bulldogs a couple weeks ago. They've got some work to do. Smithville might take aim at that group if they don't get this group of Bulldogs.Kearney by 10. But Smithville has their best shot in 10 years (and probably the next ten years) of beating Kearney.

Yeah my son who graduated from Kearney years ago was an all state player his senior season. Didn’t start playing tackle football till he was in 8th grade. Spare me the 6th grade pop Warner stats.Hahah...the best players don't show up until 6th and 7th grade
Kearney Youth Football:
7th Grade Team: 7-0 PF: 232 PA: 24
6th Grade A Team: 7-0 Points For: 237 PA: 20
6th Grade B Team: 3-3-1 PF: 71 PA: 85
5th Grade Team: PF 3-3-1 147 PA 89
From the games I've seen K tends to hit the long pass early then moves to feeding the ball to Connery. Smithville doesn't have nearly the D Staley does but is probably the second best the Dogs have faced in 2018.Defense and special teams will be the story here. Who flinches first. Both Offenses are run first. Neither are great at throwing the ball. Both front 7s on defense are good. Smithville DB also play WR so fatigue could be a factor later in game (DE plays TE as well).
If Kearney can go old school and wear down Smithville it may look like the PC game where Kearney pulls away late. If they struggle on offense early could be the year Smithville finally gets them.
Prediction-
Kearney 28
Smithville 13
Completely agree about this D. This one doesn't have any huge D1 stars but is as fast and physical as any I've seen in awhile, too. You also hit on the key pass D. That was a big weakness even in some of Kearney's best Jones years but not this one. THIS will actually be a huge early key: how Smithville deals with the aforementioned front seven because they haven't seen anything like it so far this year I would feel very, very safe to say.Top, I wouldn't say 1 long pass early make you a pass first team, but I have only seen Kearney play in the Platt City, Staley and GV game. Based on those games I'd assume Kearney is very run heavy and run first. If Kearney continues to get leads their defense and aabilityto run the ball will make it hard on other teams to comeback on them. Their defense is on par with some of the best class 4 defenses I have seen in my 15 years of watching HS football in Missouri. That front 7 is unreal and the DBs seem to have improved as year has gone on.
