Kearney 49 Burg 14 Final

The issue is something hard to predict which is the schedule. They just flat never played one top QB until tonight. Again no idea why it happened maybe conference did it but this was year for them to play Platte
Lutheran north wil be all over them because I am again seeing no Kearney passing offense at all. You don’t hide that for the good teams if it was there we’d see it.

Whew now that all the contest stuff is done etc. can try to digest tonight:

I was going to say the score was deceptive it really wasn't given how Kearney roared out of halftime. That kind of effort will take them the distance even given I stand very strongly by my contention their one glaring issue is pass D. WBurg's path was make this a shootout they almost did in the first half. Clock management and down awareness as it appeared we were heading for 28-21 was absolutely crucial. That turnover on downs turned out to be lethal.

Warrensburg QB Westphal was all that and then some! Took some unreal punishment still tried to play through it all what a gamer! Best QB Kearney has seen to date and a great prep for what is very likely coming next week. Also liked their RB but they were flat out overmatched the aforementioned second half.

Kearney played another vanilla game (we left late 3rd at that time the Dogs had ZERO POINT ZERO yards passing) but showed how tough it will be for anyone left to stop let alone slow down their downhill power rushing game which the SO QB runs so well (big kid with a burst and very smart runner to boot). Still cannot help but think (actually an old pet peeve of mine) Minnick has a whole arsenal of plays they've saved for the semifinal (not calling the matchup until official). Another huge weapon is that PK who has an incredible leg and those touchbacks will also play well next weekend.

On move the defending C4 champs (Minnick is now an unreal 35-3 since arriving here!) for what will undoubtedly be the best atmosphere of 2024 (could resemble St. Mary's at Smithville 2022 but hoping for far better visitor representation entertaining as that one Dragons Mom was) and could well be the real title game.

That was a second half beat down.
I don't know what Minnick told those kids at half (can only imagine given it was almost a 28-21 shootout and WBurg was passing almost at will) but good lord they took it personal. I counted at least 3 CONSECUTIVE third quarter plays where a Tiger was injured.

Platte County has the best and most diverse O I have seen in years in this metro area but Kearney's D Line and LBs are the best I've seen as a unit in I don't know how many years, too.

Passing at will? They had one big TD pass.
Then he got picked. The second TD was a running sideways across the body on 4th down fluke. The only thing happening T Will was the 11 yards per carry Kearney offense. The second half Burg went negative yards total.

I know Kearney fans don't want to hear it but this pass D is, I am telling you, vulnerable. NOW we likely finally arrive at the one game that everyone saw and had circled way back (I did Week 1 after the Fort game)!
For the record that was the first time all year KMO starting D gave up two TDs (it easily could have been three) BUT as we both pointed out the second half washed all that away BUT gotta come out jumping off that turf next weekend if LN does indeed win tomorrow! Kearney also barely passed the ball but why do it when the power running game goes like that albeit vs. a D that gave up points galore all season vs. a small C4 - large C3 schedule.

LN can pass but it’s only 30% of their O.
You don’t want to pass much on LN if you don’t have to. They have 23 picks this season. Their weakness is their lines. They can be run on. And on O they give up sacks.
1/3 of their total yards comes from specials. Eliminate that.

Joey gives zero credit to teams not named Kearney?
I mean… I just don’t believe it.

Wrong again jacktard. LN has 23 interceptions. Obviously good passing D backfield. Obviously good return game. Good skills players. But you just selectively read posts are just have bad reading skill?

Burg… great QB made plays. Got his ass kicked hard in second half physically. But plucky plays. Sorry the second TD was a complete fluke of a play though. The basketball equivalent of a shlt shot from Half court falling sideways with two defenders in your face.

Holy sht. Watched game via MHSSCAM and that 2nd half was brutal. There’s only one place in the world you can hit people like that and it’s on the football field..

That coach should be fired if Wburg QB has serious concussion symptoms today. There were a few times where he got hit in the head and looked like lost awareness and he stayed on field. Replay is easy to see.

He took some of the nastiest hits I’ve seen in recent memory.

To the poster up around garbage tds I concur. #26 didn’t belong on the field. When Kearney put #8 out there the pass D looked unstoppable again….

Maybe one of the most violent games I’ve seen. Also, the power run game is a lot of beef coming down hill, fast. I will be at Kearney next week for LN epicness.

It was still a great heroic play. Lucky. But you need that sometimes. Their luck ran out by the halftime though.

Fluke plays count too but I wouldn’t call that a “fluke” play based on how the QB moved around with eyes up all night, while continuing to take a beating. His receivers were trained well to keep working with him.

If you watched that and didn’t think there are some vulnerabilities in Kearney pass D, then you weren’t paying attention. D line was gassed in 2nd quarter which is expected with only 3 guys playing and some time for them on offense too. That doesn’t mean the defense didn’t turn in a very solid performance though.

Zero pass completions is an impressive feat in class 4 considering the stage of the tournament they are in and the final numbers on the scoreboard.

Kearney vs Lutheran North will be a great one. It’s going to take an elite/complete team to beat Kearney and the same can be said for Lutheran. Winner rolls in CoMo on 12/6.

Ball control. Take away the special teams yards. Smash mouth football, if it works will kill the clock and take away LN opportunities. LN will have to overcome their line play. But they have studs in the backfields all over the place.

I will watch LN again this week but if they can score 40+ on Kearney that probably gets the job done I just don't see it happening. If KHS has to throw the ball I think they will put the JR. QB in the game for that but obviously not my decision. I can see that game going either way but it will require LN to score a bunch and so far that just hasn't happened.

Biggest weakness is lack of DEPTH. Key in this one (again if it happens - 95 percent it should, though) is be in range come the 4th and wear them down.

Last night, digesting it even more this morning before heading to Liberty, was a tale of two halves. First was almost a shootout. Second was absolutely scary domination both sides of the ball.

Kicking off into the end zone (one of those last night appeared to clear the uprights my goodness) is also important. Other factor is no slow start. So much more to come once the weekend passes by! If Kearney executes both sides of the ball like they did in last night's 3rd quarter LN is indeed in for it.

The Burg QB should be awarded all-state.

I was going to disagree about the dline being gassed based on how the 2nd half went but you’re right after watching again. They did look gassed end of 1st half and then played fresh the rest of the game. I wonder if the long travel had something to do with it. LN is at a huge disadvantage next week playing at K

Warrensburg knocking off Pleasant Hill likely ends up playing a huge factor in who takes home the big prize. Agree on the home field advantage especially in this matchup, this time of year. First ever game on grass for this batch of Kearney kids would have been interesting. It’s just grass but it would have been impactful I think.
