KC Current new stadium

A downtown stadium just off the river near a casino? Have I heard this before?

I did look at the location on Google maps. The only question at this point would be parking, which could have already been discussed/addressed and I have missed it.

I'm three years removed from working in the sports travel and tourism industry in Missouri and had all kinds of inside information on who was interested in hosting, the bid process and contracts. I don't know how long the current agreements are in place and when MSHSAA is set to put it out to bid again.

The only real question would be for the Kansas City Sports Commission and the stadium ownership group is if the state football championships is an event they would be interested in pursuing and if it would be a good return on investment for them?

Mshsaa should build a 12500 multipurpose indoor stadium like in Columbia. Utilize it for semifinals and championships for sports like football, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball and wrestling. Rent it out for a variety of youth sports, concerts, graduations, camps, etc.

Haven't been there just yet will check it out.
its the same one where they didnt have enough parking for the fans, they sell the parking for more than the cost of tickets or expect you to use public transit which is a no go for me when you talk about front st and 35

In all my meetings and conversations with MSHSAA over the years working on bid proposals and hosting events, I do not recall any mention or concept of MSHSAA interested in or entertaining the idea of building its own host venue. Granted, having access to your own venue to host a multitude of events does solve a lot of scheduling conflicts and allows you to control revenue for tickets and concessions, but ultimately the cost of construction and maintaining a multi-use venue is steep.

Most municipalities who are either investing in now, conducting research to make the investment or have invested in sports venues to increase the economic impact from the sports travel and tourism industry are turning to 3P funding mechanisms -- Public/Private Partnerships. Unless a city has a history of passing a tax increase to invest in such facilities, usually it takes a combination of a tax -- this is the public component which could be the establishment of a TIF or entertainment district tax or an increase in transient guest tax.

The private component is either a deep pocket donor, a company willing to invest in the project to have it for its own operational purposes or a company who stands to benefit from the project and wants its name on the venue. Cities across the country have been spending millions investing in sports facilities and the arms race just keeps ramping up more and more each year as more and more cities realize the economic impact from sports events held in the city. Discussions have been held when this could reach a tipping point -- the number of venues available is greater than the number of events to host. Currently, there are more events looking for host sites/communities than venues/cities.

The sports commission I worked for had a budget of between $420,000-$435,000 and we hosted between 65-70 events a year, filled over 10,000 trackable hotel rooms resulting in an economic impact of $8 million or more each year.

That's small potatoes considering a city like Kansas City which in the past two weeks has hosted the MIAA Men's and Women's Tournaments, the Big 12 Women's and Men's Basketball Tournaments and the NAIA National Tournament is on tap. Kathy Nelson at the KC Sports Commission is one of the absolute best sports commissioners in the United States and has done an outstanding job of bringing new events with significant impact to Kansas City and it feels like they continue to have momentum for more growth.

ShowMe Missouri Sports is a statewide collective of sports commissions and CVB's who work together to sell Missouri to sports organizations from all over the United States. The teamwork between all the members of ShowMe Missouri Sports has allowed member cities to land events and increase economic impact all over the state. Cape Girardeau, Springfield, St. Joseph, Jefferson City, Columbia, Sedalia, Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, Maryland Heights, St. Charles, St. Louis, Kansas City and Joplin all work together to make it happen.

I said JCPS should've done this 2 years ago when they spent probably 50-60 million adding baseball and soccer stadiums at JC and the stands/locker rooms/weightroom at the field at Cap City. Could've got an agreement with MSHSAA to do many of those similar things.

It's a great stadium, with an awesome setting/location. I've always thought it would be a great locale for HS football. The potential there is huge for all sorts of events. I'm hopeful it's potential can be fully realized! Wasn't aware it was natural grass though, would be hard for it to host an event like the Show Me Bowl. Regardless, a day full of Show Me Bowl games followed by a street car ride to PNL doesn't sound like too bad of afternoon.

That sounds like something that would cut into MSHSAA bottom line too much.

The adverse effect would be tripling the prices of streaming at a minimum as well as tripling the amount they charge for admission to postseason events. No thanks lol

It’s a good idea but would give them an excuse to make everything more expensive for all participants in my opinion.

KC Current new soccer stadium opened up yesterday. Was amazed how nice it was. Would be the perfect size stadium for state championship games for football.
I have a feeling if you would poll all high school football players in Missouri they would vote for playing in the dome in St Louis.

I think in December or late November most would want the dome. It's another example of using public money for private institutions gone bad. Remember that for Cheifs and Royals.

Most kids in WC called it the "Cardinal Dome" long before we had our own dome

Not sure about Class 1 to 6, but I think that the 8-man State Championship should be played there. It is the perfect size and location.

Current Stadium seats 11,500 max, which is about half of a full Plaster Stadium in Springfield. I never went to the title games in Springfield, how full was Plaster for those?
