Did you know a Stratton?Me too, we held practice there that week before the 90 game, brutal looking carpet burn down the side of my shin and it still doesn't tan right to this day.

Hey danget we spent countless hours lining up funding for that turf a square yard at a time.It was a sandy mess for sure with that old awful turf.
When I was in elementary school, I was given a piece of the turf in a container and got to tour the new field. I remember walking on that turf thinking it was so cool.Hey danget we spent countless hours lining up funding for that turf a square yard at a time.
When it was new it was quite the showplace
Interesting. Countless hours lining up funding, huh? No booster club down that way?Hey danget we spent countless hours lining up funding for that turf a square yard at a time.

Not back then,,,MSSU had won a national championship just a couple years previously so most businesses were pretty receptive to kicking in some cash.Interesting. Countless hours lining up funding, huh? No booster club down that way?
Was Fred Hughes supposed to be a complete bowl? I never knew for sure on that, but I did know it was never completed as designed. I recall Dad showing the the patterns on the east side where steps were in place to take viewers up higher, once that section was finished. Of course, it never was. Would it have made Southern a better football situation? Jon Lantz was able to recruit and win there, but no one else seemed to have his abilities. Shame the way they drove him off.Not back then,,,MSSU had won a national championship just a couple years previously so most businesses were pretty receptive to kicking in some cash.
It would have been a nice facility but never could get anyone in administration interested in completing it as designed.
They were more interested in international piano competitions
It was supposed to be similar to MU with a full horseshoe shape open to the north. South part of facility was supposed to have locker rooms, weight room and training facilities. It would have been state of the art in the 70’sWas Fred Hughes supposed to be a complete bowl? I never knew for sure on that, but I did know it was never completed as designed. Sounds like it. Thanks. Shame it never materialized. It was supposed to be similar to MU with a full horseshoe shape open to the north. South part of facility was supposed to have locker rooms, weight room and training facilities. It would have been state of the art in the 70’s
I was a sophomore that year so I'm not familiar with Stratton. Do you mean Jason Staton?Did you know a Stratton?

That is so funny because I can remember my dad making the same complaint about the admin at MSSU in those days, he was friends with Lantz. I think he literally used those words - they are more interested in piano competitions than things that will actually raise the profile of the university in a way that people care about. Not back then,,,MSSU had won a national championship just a couple years previously so most businesses were pretty receptive to kicking in some cash.

no Kenny Stratton I was thinking he played around that time he might have been a bit earlier.I was a sophomore that year so I'm not familiar with Stratton. Do you mean Jason Staton?
Dr Leon’ was more concerned about Southerns “International Mission” than promoting programs that students in the Midwest actually cared about. That guy was beyond useless and is the reason MSSU is in the shape it is todayThat is so funny because I can remember my dad making the same complaint about the admin at MSSU in those days, he was friends with Lantz. Julio Leon had his fans but I agree he is a big part of the reason why MSSU is still playing catchup to peer institutions in terms of athletics, reputation, and overall college experience.Dr Leon’ was more concerned about Southerns “International Mission” than promoting programs that students in the Midwest actually cared about.
