Joplin 43, Webb City 42..... Final OT!

My IQ is high enough to not be some nerd who never played a snap of varsity football to call out a coach from Webb that broke his neck actually playing football . Went to homecoming with his wife to take pictures . Then drive himself to the hospital. You are a stain on the program that has never been a part of it
Does any of that mean he is a good football coach???

No it doesn't . But it shows how tough he is and how committed he is to this program . He is Webb City . We all hate these losses . I'm sure Ryan hates them even more . All but one of these games could have flipped if it wasnt for this or that . But they are really young and pretty beat up. If they aren't 7-2 or better at this point next year then I'll start to agree with you

And I could still see them winning their district,,,,,the boys are playing hard. Losings not for lack of effort

Not sure but how many wins is that now for Joplin in the all time series officially?
Without looking it up I think Joplin leads the series 5-2 since joining the coc. No idea for all time. I think they played sometime around 1997 and Webb city won.

If the COC is down this year then Grain Valley should win the district with Webb and Carthage

The COC is down. Not really sure how that equates to GV winning the district though. They’re about the same as the decent COC schools it seems. A decent football team, but nothing special.
Running game is solid. Passing not so much. Never know how inter-regional games will go but everything is on the line now regular season ends up being pretty much prep for what is to come. FWIW I still like Carthage in this one if a smidge.

It’s Joplin’s fault they didn’t have an easier path to Columbia, the Dome, or wherever the title games were at for the last 40 years. Had they stayed being Memorial and Parkwood, Webb may never have developed the dynasty it had.
Imagine a world where blinded is a Jasper honk instead of a WC pita.

Not sure where Jasper comes into this, unless you’re referring to the Joplin HC, and I imagine he could display quite a honk. The following was posted by @BearEagle back in 2018, and it shows how Memorial and Parkwood was each other’s pita:

“Joplin schools won state titles in 75, 76, 77, 77, 78, 80, 83, 84

1977 or 78 Memorial won basketball and track
Parkwood state football runner up 1984
Parkwood 83 football champs also won1984 baseball title

Memorial football state champ in 76 (13-1) Parkwood went 10-0 that same season, yes Memorial lone loss Parkwood. If Missouri didnt have that stupid point system could have both Joplin schools won state titles in the same year. Parkwood Class 4 (largest class then) Memorial class 3.

Since the Eagles and Bears became one school, Joplin has played in 2 state title games the past 32 years, both in Baseball.”

Of course, Joplin did finally make it to a C6 football title game a year or so after that post, it’s still hard to wonder how different things would have been had the merger not taken place. Webb didn’t start making noise until the late 80s. The athletic talent of the area did seem to shift there post merger. Would Cat Johnson have kept his kids at Joplin if it was the two schools instead of the one large high school that seemed out-of-geographical place at the time?

Yep I remember 1990 well also. Webb boys in Columbia playing for a state title while Joplin boys practicing basketball as usual
I was on the Joplin 1990 team, we played 3 teams that made it to the finals that year...

Jefferson City, we lost 20-10. JC was Class 5 State Champs that year.

Springdale Ark, we lost to them 36-16. Springdale was Class 5 State Champs in Ark. That year.

The game after the Springdale game was Webb City. 1990 State Runner up

We had a pretty tough schedule. 7-3, our other loss was to Kickapoo 17-14

We also had Rogers Ark & Colombia Hickman on that year's schedule.

There is no telling how or if things might be different if Joplin hadn't merged. Besides the merger there was also a legendary coach that retired. So it wasn't only the merger that changed.

I can tell you though, moving up into larger classification can have a negative effect on a program if suddenly you can't compete like you used to and you aren't playing games against your neighbors. So this could have been a factor for Joplin in their overall percetion and interest in their program. They might have been good but people in Webb City or other places in the area sure didn't see it because they never played them and all they saw was Joplin going to Kansas City every year in districts and failing to compete with those schools because they never competed with them except one game a year. Eventually perception turns to reality and I think that's what happened to Joplin until they hired coach Jasper and joined the COC.

It's hard to believe that football was allowed to be played on that stuff. I still have scars from it.
Me too, we held practice there that week before the 90 game, brutal looking carpet burn down the side of my shin and it still doesn't tan right to this day.
