Is there any reason to put Holliday on the roster?

Maybe pinch hit down the stretch in the regular season.

Other than that, the young guys and veterans are all better than him.
As far as playoff roster goes I say leave him home. It's time to cut him loose.

Not having looked at the heads, it is an interesting thought. Although the optimal postseason roster has more hitters than the regular season roster given the amount of off days.

Jhonny Peralta also starts to be an interesting question if Diaz is back. How does he stick around over Wong, Carp, Diaz, or Gyorko? Plus Garcia offers far more flexibility off the bench.

I think you have to go with Diaz, Gyorko, Carp, Garcia and Wong as the infielders. Garcia can play multiple positions, just like Gyorko. Wong, while inconsistent, provides speed off the bench and can be a decent pinch hitter and an emergency OF if needed. Gyorko's bat will be needed.

Much rather have Peralta than Garcia, if Diaz is healthy. Don't need the flexibility if Diaz is back. And Peralta offers pop off the bench.

With the way this team is hitting right now i think you put Holliday in left and bat him clean up for the rest of the season if he is healthy. Hopefully he somehow has one of his streaks where no one can get him out and he rides it into the playoffs. This team is doomed if someone doesnt go off the final weeks of the regular season.

Looks like the decision about Holliday won't have to be made. His simulated game action was cut short because of swelling in his thumb. I would think that pretty much ends any comeback bid for this regular season or a possible playoff run.
