Vianney---Vianney is loaded this year and has C. Gordon who will be Coach Tony Iron's nightmare. Do we have anyone out there who is picking Vashon in this one other then Southeast Missouri fans?

When did Vashon become a small school in St Louis?

High schools with over one thousand enrollment is considered in the large school ranking. Schools with under one thousand enrolled are in the small school ranking by the post dispatch. Vashon was impressive in the Riverbend classic this past weekend but they are back in St. Louis now and the private schools are waiting for Tony Irons and the Vashon Woverines.

So only class 5 schools schools are considered large for basketball in St.Louis? Doesn't seem to be very fair for class 4 to be in with the smaller schools.

Class 4/5 cutoff is somewhere around 1200, so there are some Class 4 in the large. Don't forget, it includes IL schools as well. It has always been this way in the PD polls. Think about it...How many "small" schools are there in the metro area? You're thinking "small" in rural terms. Not many Class 1/2/3 schools in the metro.

I've never really known how far outside the city the metro poll reaches. You don't have to go too far in Missouri to find some class 2 and 3 schools and Illinois has a LOT of smaller schools not far from the city.

I can't swear to this...but I think it's STL county, St Charles County, Jefferson County in MO. Not sure on Illiinois side. MIGHT be Franklin Co on MO side, but don't think so.

If it includes Jefferson County it has several smaller schools in it. Jefferson- Festus, Herculaneum, Crystal City, Festus, St. Pius and Grandview just off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure there are several class 3 schools in south St. Louis County but I couldn't name them.

I get what you're saying. Just not sure it's something really designed to suit small schools. Probably shouldn't be either, IMO. It's a metro area. I'd venture a guess, if you used 1000 as an enrollment break, there'd be a fairly even amount of schools on each side in the areas they include. No need to water it down. They've got MSHSAA to handle that.

I hear ya on that one. I just thought it strange that only the largest class in the state was considered a large school for their poll.
