Once mighty? The once mighty I-70 conference is breaking apart. Sad.
Yes, in their day the I-70 has produced some very good teams.Once mighty?
Orrick, under Pat Richard, had probably the best program in C1. Agree with Mowestdad very sad what is happening. It kinda reminds me of the GRC up North.Wellington was always a top in their class.
Concordia had a few teams that were loaded
Santa Fe was very good there for a while
Sweet Springs had a championship appearance
Orrick had a few good runs in there too.
According to the 8-man coaches' Twitter account, Santa Fe has already decided to drop down.assume:
wellnap - 11 man next year
st pauls - (should just drop football and stick to soccer)
crestridge - will be looking for a new conference maybe
concordia - 11 man hanging on a thread?
santa fe---they may want to go 8 man
lone jack---co-op so will stay 11 man
SS ---same ---coop --but did see their ad and HC commenting publicly about predicted lack of numbers next year---so maybe 8 man
orrick already 8 man
did i miss any news though or why did you bring it up?
Looks like the WEMO may only have (2) eleven man team next year if the rumors that a swirling about are true. Adrian and Cass-Midway.
Is 150 the number to play 8-man?What happens if a schools enrollment goes from 149 one year to 151 the next?
Yes, With so many schools hovering around 150 why doesn't MSHSAA allow any school who qualifies for 1A be eligible for 8 man. To me that would make more sense especially when you consider some of the schools who will be left on an 11 man island. I think a school who is on the verge of 1A-2A would have a much better chance of fielding a 11 man team than a middle of the pack 1A school with 151 enrollment. Is 150 the number to play 8-man?
It's not just those schools. And it's not just the "concussion panic."from the looks of the enrollment numbers, it doesn't appear that they are all getting smaller so it must just be less kids wanting to play football.
Because the Class 1/2 cut-off is a moving target. As each team goes 8-man, that number goes up. It is better to have a set number. Now you can argue whether it is too low or not.Yes, With so many schools hovering around 150 why doesn't MSHSAA allow any school who qualifies for 1A be eligible for 8 man. Really sad to see the WEMO and I-70 dissipate those two conferences produced some awfully good football teams.
I almost think it would be worth Crest Ridge and Wellington going 8 man to keep the conference alive.

I don’t know if Concordia’s board has voted yet but I would bet they go 8-man.Wellington on the fence about going 8-man
St. Paul’s, Concordia, Santa Fe, sweet springs are all going 8-man next fall.
Crest Ridge is staying 11-man
Lone Jack even without coop is too big to go 8-man so they will stay 11-man
Orrick remains 8-man
Why have a set number? If a school or community feels it is in the best interest of their program to go 8 man why should it matter? After all the argument from many of the schools who have made the move at the last second "it is not about winning or losing but safety". With that said what's the difference between a school with an enrollment of 200 having 20 players forced to play 11 man and a school with 149 with 30 plus that is being allowed to play 8 man. This just doesn't make any sense.Because the Class 1/2 cut-off is a moving target. As each team goes 8-man, that number goes up. It is better to have a set number. Has Well-Nap's numbers dropped that much? I thought they still had anywhere from 25-30 kids on the team.Wellington on the fence about going 8-man

touchdownsilly - I think theoretically a larger school could have an 8-man schedule. They just couldn’t be in the MSHSAA postseason as it is set up now.Why have a set number? What an unfortunate day.St. Paul, Sweet Springs, Concordia, have all three informed their 2020 opponents they are going 8 man all 3 are official.
What would satisfy you? If the school is under the cutoff, they can move - period. Is there penalty to a school that drops from 11 to 8 man as far as the two year schedule of games?

A ton of phone calls.I was just wondering about the schedules that they abandon since they have two year games set up with the teams they play. Not looking for any punishments just wondering if there is anything that happens.
