The reciprocal tariffs are going to kill our farmers. How long until Congress bails them out with our money? When will they bail out my IRA?

Mine too....I am too f'ing old to go through this. I'm in my 80's and may not live long enuf to see mine recover.
Hold on a second,,,Dow Jones is up 5% over the last year. What terrible loss are you trying to recover from???

Isn’t your portfolio worth more today than it was last year

That may b e but the uncertainty the orange turd has placed on the market makes me wonder what the future will bring. The first 3 months of his presidency doesn't inspire hope. And some of my republican friends feel the same as I do.

No. Mine is not. Every bit of gain, plus some from the last year was wiped in one day, recovered about a third, wiped again, recovered a tiny bit, wiped again, etc. That is the definition of volatility.

Dow Jones has almost doubled in value in the last 5 years for no reason except pure speculation. It is due for a big time correction, I would be taking my profits and getting out now

I have lived through 50 years of market corrections. This isn't a market correction but rather an idiot experimenting with tariffs and he and his inner crowd is profiting every time he talks tariffs or firing the head of the Fed. Martha Stewart spent time in prison for "insider trading" that doesn't compare to this. I also lost my job during Bush's recession and don't want another 1. Good nursing homes are expensive and I don't need this at my age!

I have no problem with the government subsidizing farmers. It's an essential need. But, we do need to stop pretending that we don't like socialist programs.
I hope I have not given the impression that I have ever been against socialist programs.

As for built I don't want to speak for him, but the way I took it was that a lot of people claim to be against socialist programs that help other people, but are not against them when they help that individual.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Changing the subject…. Why do you think Trump wants Canada to be our 51st state but not Mexico?

I agree with you regarding programs that help others than myself. However, farmers in Missouri overwhelmingly voted for tRUMP. Why shouldn't they suffer the consequences of that vote? This is the 1st quarter of this presidency. Is this the beginning of quarterly payments to the farmers? What about all the others hurt by loss of job, loss of funding?

To me the issue is we have been subsidizing farmers long before Trump which created an over abundance of goods. When a Market like China is lost it creates huge surpluses. Then we have to help the farmers even more. We need to slowly roll back subsidizing, 30 Billion a year is alot of money that goes to helping farmers. This goes far beyond the Pubs and the Dems, I have friends who collect some good money because the government compensates them for not farming and taking land out of production??? Some of this has never made a lot of sense to me, and these guys were never farmers to begin with they are rich dudes looking for a tax haven for all of their money they make doing other things.

There is a lot I don't disagree with, but can we hold off on making those changes? This is the first year my wife and I have the farm that she inherited last year.

This is the first year my wife and I have the farm that she inherited last year.honestly and that is the issue, when do you start to implement it? I don't have the answer because there is going to be a pain process. But when alot of this farm aid came out we truly had small farmers and it was helping keep those small family farms going. That is not the case anymore. While yes it does help small family farms, large corporations benefit disproportionately from government farm subsidies, with many critics arguing that these subsidies primarily benefit the largest producers rather than small family farms.
Honestly that is the issue, most of these subsidies were supposed to go to small family farms and I believe that was the original intent, However over time the subsidies that were supposed to help the small family farms are now driving them out of business. Because the subsidies keep prices artificially low as big corporation farms collect on subsidies and drive prices down forcing the little guys out.
So now subsidies disproportionately help larger and corporation farmers more as they collect more money from government farm subsidies than those small family farms.

It needs to be fixed.
