Alba, Mo
heard rumor at game tonight might be scheduling Pittsburg again instead of Harber. do they have non conference games regular season??

from the sounds of it kansas is putting districts in the post season like us. have heard rumors that pitts 3 out of conference games will be webb harrisonville and another mo team but cant remember who

Always loved that game. Not sure how they are anymore, but would be a fun game to pick back up.

Sure it will be an okay game, but after playing Rock and Har Ber for the last two years that really seems like a step down for Webb is the talent going dry?

I do not think you guys realize what a physical toll these games take on the WC kids. Yes they win despite being out gunned but it is at a price. The goal every year is a state title. Not to impress as many fans as possible or find intriguing match-ups to be covered by national publications.
I really don't know what else many of you expect WC to prove.

I'm glad that WC has been able to hook up with the likes of Rockhurt and Har-Ber but I miss the Pittsburg series. Especially the excuse to go eat some Chicken Annies...:)

Agree that it was a good series but I like the idea of playing new schools. As a fan, the Har-Ber game was fun. I know Webb did not come close to playing their best game (HB had something to do with that) but it was enjoyable because the outcome was still in doubt in the 4th quarter. Maybe not Jenks or Union but I'd like to see WC against a decent Oklahoma team.

I get the thought there, but Pitt seemed to always play Webb tough. They generally were better than most of the conference games.

I'm on Beats thought though. After a while, the size difference will catch up(on the injury front). Butttttttt.... the idea of catching a Jenks/Union asleep 1 game is a nice thought....

Try Gebhardts near Mulberry. Food ain't bad and you'll be the youngest one in there if you're 55yrs or fewer. Pittsburg will at least fill up the visitors section. Don't remember Har-Ber or Rockhurst doing that.

Injury issue is certainly a good point.

Those Rockhurst or Aquinas games might have something to do with preparation for the balance of the season too though. Who is going to expose Webbs "weaknesses"?
I really think they need to cut down league sizes a little with a nine game schedule now. Teams need to be able to schedule up or down based on their needs.

Well this is just funny reading, first Webb schedules up to get ready for for the run to the state title everybody says and talks about how nobody will be as prepared as Webb because of the teams they have played. Now they say they are scheduling down for a run at the title..which is it? You knock a CJ for playing down in their conference and beat your chest for playing up. Now Webb Schedules down the one game so you don't take on a team as phsical and you still beat your chest because it is about taking it easy so you don't get beat up for the run to the title game? I was at the game against Rock it was not close I would think any team that would hang within 3 TD would be just as physical? I am so confused on the Webby logic spinmeisters on this thread.

Do you really think I said WC is scheduling down in order to win a title?? Come on Bullit your better than that!
I am proud of the way the kids played the last few years with the larger class schools. Even in the mist of this amazing run I think it is unreasonable to believe WC will always have the beef and athleticism to compete with the Rocks, HarBers, CBCs of the world on a yearly basis. We are not just talking about large schools but large school with proven records of sustained success. And I am just sick of WC slaying one dragon and before the kids leave the field everyone on here is trying to find a bigger dragon to play.
Secondly I believe the COC-Large is evolving to some extent. While none have played the level of WC, there is no denying the level of play has improved in Nixa, Willard, Carthage, Neosho, & Republic. Most of the league is now centered on power run game and trying to be physical. Maybe in the future WC will be able to find out more about themselves in conference play.

I wish I felt sorry for you guys playing a couple big schools , think about how Parkwood used to feel trying to win a state title going through class 6 teams. Play Rockhurst Har-Ber Blue springs and CBC! Then come talk to me!

If Mary's was better the one on Rangline would not have closed.

Ahh Grasshopper same name doesnt mean same food. Biggest difference is in the sides, but as I said same name different food. if you have ever had Pizza at Hortons right down from PHS its awesome. The one they opened at 13th and Shiff in Joplin is awful.....
As far as scheduling down playing Pittsburg, they are kinda like playing an Ozark or Nixa in that they give you everything they got every game and the fact they are one of the last teams to beat WEBB in the regular season adds to it, ROCK didnt get that done.

I think we all agree the way the state handled football 30+ years ago was not very good. It has changed for the better over time with adding classes and the district seeding.
I wish I felt sorry for you winning a championship in a classification you were assigned to.

Come on Bullit. You must really be bored. The discussion is play PHS or a "Rockhurst/Jenks type" opponent. Playing PHS may not my 1st choice, but I would not necessarily call it scheduling down? I'm the wannabe dragon slayer I guess. However, nowhere do I see WC fans contemplating scheduling East Newton (no disrespect to EN). If you just want to join the throngs of Webb bashers....ok?

No not bashing Webb and I don't have any skin in the game, just as a fan I do enjoy when I can get away from my Cubs and come over and watch the Cardinals play a good team that will test them. So just trying to figure out all the "Fan speak" on why Pittsburg is such a great choice or better than what you have had? I have always been told if you want to be the best you have to play the best win or lose and most of that comes from you Webb fans about CJ and who they play all season long. As for playing down probable Pittsburg is not a step down for most schools, but Webb an't most schools so yeah I would say it is a big step down from Har-Ber and Rock. Pittsburg has an enrollment of about 850 students in their high school which puts them smaller than any school in the COC large that Webb will face so how is that not a step down?

Funny, all this talk about whether they're playing up or playing down. I thought the MOST important thing to some of these posters was to never set foot in Kansas and if you play in Kansas you're a traitor or something.

No, a Missouri playoff game being played in Kansas is what gets people worked up.

What's the difference? A game is a game. We're currently trying to get a Kansas team on our schedule for 2016- 2017, so you might as well start whining, now.

Geez no one cares if you play a Kansas team! A lot of Missouri teams play Kansas teams, it's no big deal. Schedule your heart out no one will complain if your playing a regular season home and away.

The complaints, from many on here, are that MSHSAA played a state playoff game between 2 Missouri high schools in Kansas. I understand that there was a ton of rain and the field was unplayable.

No one will whine for playing a regular season game. Your not talking about the same thing. We are talking playoffs not regular season .

Pittsburg is a bigger town than Webb (approx. 20K to 11K) and without looking I presumed PHS would be pretty close or maybe larger than WCHS. Still, at 850 students that makes PHS a KS 5A school and would put them right in the middle of MO Class 4 (currently 686 to 1205). So in that respect, Webb would be playing a school within their own classification, not "a step down" in classification. Additionally, PHS is a school with a good football tradition.

On the other hand, Webb just played Har-Ber and if you adjust the enrollment to reflect grades 9-12 they would weigh in at about 2300 students; almost double that of Webb's. Rockhurst's adjusted enrollment is even higher at 2960 (1096 male students, doubled and private multiplier). From the RH website: "Rockhurst draws a student body that is ethnically and socio-economically diverse from 95 different zip codes, 59 in Missouri and 36 in Kansas." So yes compared to these two Goliaths, PHS might be considered "a step down".

I understand the injury debate. At a student population of 1176 for Webb, Coach Rod will have “x” number of 6’4 280 pound linemen and “x” number of skill position players with size and speed to match. It only stands to reason that if Webb has “x” on the field, Har-Ber should have “2X” and who knows how many “X” Rockhurst could have when they are pulling from “95 different zip codes”? Since you were at the RH game, you saw two different sized huddles. You saw some young men that were not intimidated by their size deficiency. Even though our boys competed with heart and won that game, that did not grant them immunity from the laws of physics.

As a fan, I personally like the idea of WC competing against different schools and watching them get challenged by better competition. Coach Rod is on record saying that playing better competition challenges your team and will make you better. Is he in the Dragon Slayer camp? Webb only scheduled Har-Ber and Rock because Coach Rod thought it was the right thing to do. We football nut jobs love to talk about this and that but in the end, it will be the guy with upteen state championships (instant credibility) scheduling the one open date WC has based on who is available, who won’t duck, and who he thinks will benefit the Cardinals the most whether that be East Newton, Pittsburg or Jenks.

good words right there. thumbs up

Well you have poured way to much studying and energy looking up facts and figures into that post than I even care to think about! But yet you could not double check my facts on Pittsburg high student enrollment? By the way this list them at only 799 9th-12th so I was giving them a few more :rolleyes:http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/kansas/districts/pittsburg/pittsburg-high-8124 remember just google it if in doubt. Now Monett has almost 9.5K in population yet our school is half the size of Webb and about 50 less than Pittsburg. But demographically Pittsburg population could be older or of college age, which would make those numbers seem off? Now yes back in the day Pittsburg had some solid tradition in football, however their last state title was in 1990. They made the Kansas playoffs last year for the first time since 2007. So I would not call that a real power house I mean come on it is Kansas football . Look what Webb did to the best team in that state just two weeks ago. Yes that is poking fun at Rockhust and their Kansas connection:D.

Now make no mistake about it, I am in no means questioning why John put them on the schedule, In fact you are the first one to bring up his name or even that reason. I have heard our AD laminate about the issues of finding somebody to play, so I am sure whatever the reason John did it for, it is a good one, and I am sure Webb has issues filling their schedule and it is a close game and really should be a good game for the fans of both towns. What I have always talked about is the "fan speak" which for years, some not all, but some fans have beat their chest about how their seclude makes them better than anybody else they play. I guess over the years I have grown tired of hearing OMG you are going to make me defend them RAZR will like this, how CJ could never compete with Webb because they played all smaller schools. Hate to tell them all the bad news... but CJ would have lost to Webb no matter who they played in those 9 regular season games, Webb was just that much better. CJ did beat up on the co-ozark champ however last year so maybe playing in the big 8 did not hurt them too bad afterall because a team who only plays smaller school should never compete with a school that plays only larger....right? Anyways so now you guys are playing a school that would not even be the largest in the Big 8 not even counting CJ. Yet again I am sure some "fans" will figure out how to spin Pittsburg into some power house even though they have not won a state title in 25 years and made the playoffs for the first time in 6. ;)

If you are going to chastise me for not double checking, I will ask you to clarify.....was this wood, vinyl, or other?

Just a fun jest. Thank you sir for the enchanting banter! :)

Was it? I seem to remember it was in good shape, they just didn't want it tore up. That was my major complaint. If they wished for their field to remain prestine, fine. You then forfeit the right to dictate where the game is played. The other team hosts IMO instead of being forced to travel even further to the game.
