Helias vs West Plains

Looks like Helias and West Plains will be playing the next two years week 4 per the JC paper.
I was really hoping for a Camdenton Helias matchup but this will be a good one as well. Are they taking the spot of the Cardinal Ritter game?

Heard that Jeff City dropped Hannibal...must be sick of getting beat by them.

Helias getting to schedule easy wins

Probably so.

Jeff City will probably go out and schedule the likes of Fulton or Marshall, you know play the real good teams in non-conference play. (Obviously sarcasm) It just makes me laugh that a program like Jeff City with all those old prideful through the roof Jaybirds are going out and scheduling NCMC and Tri-County teams. Outside of Blair Oaks and Hannibal, Jeff City has no good reason to schedule those teams. The CMAC is very weak right now as well outside of Helias and Rock Bridge. If they want to be the best like they continuously spout, then go play the best.

JC wanted to drop Hannibal two years ago. Hannibal was supposed to host them, but said they would play the game at JC. Pretty sad the once feared Jays are now looking to schedule smaller schools just to get wins.

CR may be playing bigger schools on Illinois side. I would think after this years game, Helias would want to play them at home again next year.

I think scheduling CR previously was more a necessity due to a team dropping out and needing to fill it quick. Just my opinion. As fan I liked the game. Get to see future Mizzoui Tigers play. Also a good measuring stick game. This CR team is mostly filled with juniors, if I remember correctly. If they keep everyone, they are going crazy good next year.

They will be playing showcase games then like the basketball team does

BO would play them. If they are willing to play Class 5 out of state competition as they just signed up for then of course they would. The atmosphere at that game would be crazy compared to any recent Heliax / jeff city game, any recent post season BO game, or anything else that I can think of. They play each other in every other sport! They both scrimmage together as well. There is nothing out there that would say that this would not happen or not be a good idea. The community would absolutely love it.

Give the mayor a call and get in on the mayors cup. I know the Helias would love to get to play them for real.

The Mayor's Cup already leaves Capital City out. Besides, the way BO is growing, Jeff City and them may be in the same district together before too long.

Yeah it the team with the best record vs the other two. The JC/ Helias game is usually the last game played which has decided the outcome the last couple of years . So it does kind of appear that way now that I think about it.
Made me wonder because CC had beaten JC last year but they still called it the Mayors Cup game when Helias played JC

Honestly I want to see Helias or Jeff City or both schedule Blair Oaks once. Just once.
Sad to say but I take Blair oaks over Smith cotton in the CMAC any day. Ya Blair Oaks is a small to mid size school but I say they be a top 3 team every year in and out in Football if they we’re in CMAC. Blair Oaks is closer to enrollment to Helias, Jeff City, and Capital City then the 3 Jeff City Schools to Rock Bridge, and Hickman

That's BS.... when Jeff City was a powerhouse, they had to schedule teams out of state because no one would play them in Missouri. If you can pad your schedule they should do it!

Ah yes, Jeff City is okay with playing lesser opponents now so they can "pad" their record.
No wonder that district is going down, it's a mentality like yours that leads to inferiority.

Hannibal is a reasonable non-confernce game, they are literally a same class opponent. It's mind boggling that Jeff City has fallen to this. They still have 1200-1300 kids in that school and think they have to go and play schools half their size.

Hey I hear Missouri Military Academy has an opening, schedule them. Maybe go schedule Russellville, got to "pad" that record somehow. Heck, maybe that new small school conference will let you in, this way you all can feel better about yourselves because you can "pad" that record.

They weren't beating Hannibal so why keeping playing them. Coaches get fired based off if wins abd losses so if they need to play teams of the same or lesser quality with the conference schedule they play that is full of class 5 & 6 schedule They need to balance out their schedule. By the way, they hace 1100 students

It is reasonable for Jeff City to schedule schools like Hannibal, Camdenton, Rolla, Bolivar and so on. They don't need to to be scheduling schools half their size. And let's not act like that conference is tough, Sedalia class 5 is really bad, Hickman class 6 is really bad, Battle class 5 is pretty bad. Cap City class 5 and they're average, if that even. So let's stop acting like they play a gauntlet of a schedule.

By the way according to DESE for the 22-23 school year (latest enrollment data they have out) Jeff City has an enrollment of 1310, just so you are aware. Also, Jeff City is the biggest class 4 school this year, you never know they may be a class 5 school next year. So again, tell me why they really need to be playing class 3 schools half their size.

Who are the “prideful” “through the roof” Jaybirds in charge of scheduling JC football games. Head coach and AD Wells is from Colorado.

If JC and CCHS are going to win mayor’s cup or cmac they are going to need to recruit their hallways and raise the bar at practice. Talking about cmac being weak and being member of tri-county is laughable.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. You all have a different opinion about how they need to schedule than I do, which is fine.

I just have the mentality that you have to schedule teams that will give you as much of challenge but still be able to be competitive. I think Hannibal is a good game for them, it's a tough quality opponent that is a top 5 class 4 school. I think it's a game that allows you to learn a lot and get better even if you lose. At the end of the day, if Jeff City wants to become a program that competes for state titles, then they're going to have to play teams like Hannibal, and figure out how to beat them. You don't do that by not playing them though.

Look at the Tri-County, schools are putting more resources into their programs and facilities. They're going out and hiring better coaches. Because they're chasing Blair Oaks, and the only way to beat them is if you set your standards to the standards of Blair Oaks, because they're the standard right now. But there was a time when they weren't, and they were the program that had to raise their standards, and raise the bar. They went out and played the best teams in their class or the class above, and continue to do that to this day.

I just feel like Jeff City has lowered the bar and the standards in their district way too much. I just hate to see the football program do the same. None the less, I don't have hard feelings towards you all or Jeff City as a whole, I just have a different opinion. Best of luck to Jeff City the rest of the season. I do think they have a pretty good shot of winning districts as Pleasant Hill looks to be the only real threat they have. Either way, I look forward to districts and the playoffs starting, it's a great time of the year!

That will be a good addition to the schedule for West Plains. I am not sure what Rock Bridges situation is like if they are needing any games. But I could see them being a team that would be interested in playing WP. Coach Perkins always liked looking outside the local area and I am sure he would love a shot at Wyatt and the Zizzers.

No argument from me on playing Hannibal. My statement was they are going to raise the bar. That means challenges. In order to beat RB, HC, and others you are going to have to challenge your team. The school district doesn’t seem to want to demand excellence as it once did. Shame.

Also, if you are in a conference, you are stuck with what you get. That is why your non con games better be good. HC had Cardinal Ritter and nearly won. BO had LN and was close. But you can’t argue that every team in either conference is good or better. Each has their “homecoming” teams. Don’t care if their facilities are coming along or not. JC has become a “homecoming” team. It is sad. Desire for excellence isn’t easy.

They play Helias abd they are have JC size. JC plays Rock Bridge which almost twice JC size. Hickman is a class 6 school and has talent but bad coaching. Battle is class 5 with talent and just got a new coach. They are not a bad team. Who has Jeff City scheduled that is below their classification?
